Story
When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

Publisher's Summary
Everything they grab burns. Everyone they touch dies. Everything they kill comes back from the dead.
A secluded Mississippi River island is the perfect vacation getaway - until the space rocks land. A family is killed by searing radiation. The same cosmic force returns Dad, sister, and the two boys from the grave. But they're deteriorating quickly and melting away. And they want your flesh.
Oh, look. Here come the tourists.
A B-movie in an audiobook, The Melting Dead is a roller-coaster ride that will make your heart burst with fear and make your sides ache with laughter.
Praise from critics:
"One of the best zombie stories I have read." (Peter Schwotzer, Famous Monsters of Filmland)
"Ferocious, twisted and often snarkily funny zombie horror hackathon...Lamoreux's violence doesn't approach the nihilistic brutality of Jack Ketchum, but when he does go there, it's all the more gripping because it is inflicted on characters you actually come to know and care about." (Peter O'Keefe, Tales from the Darkside)

Tried....Too Boring
Based on the summary, I thought this book held promise. I was really wrong. It was one of the weakest books I’ve listened to in a long time. The characters are not interesting and the plot goes nowhere. The characters just talk and talk and talk about crap. The dialogue is barely believable or realistic. The narration was average and didn’t elevate the poor material. I finally gave up about half way through. A very hard pass.

Horror movie at the drive-in Circa 1978
I loved this audiobook! Even though the narrator was indistinguishable from a text to audio program at first, he did warm to the task at hand as the story progressed and I was swept away to the drive in theaters of my youth. What FUN! Don’t get me wrong, it’s horrific and suspenseful, but in the popcorn devouring, edge of your seat, double feature kinda way. I’d forgotten how fun scary can can be. I enjoyed it so much I listed to the entire audiobook in one session. This book was written by a true aficionado of the genre. If you ever loved horror movies, this book is for you! Two thumbs up and all 5 stars!
