It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. Though there have been countless stories about me throughout my career and very public personal life, it’s been impossible to communicate the complexities and depths of my experience in any single magazine article or a 10-minute television interview. And even then, my words were filtered through someone else’s lens, largely satisfying someone else’s assignment to define me.

This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Writing this memoir was incredibly hard, humbling and healing. My sincere hope is that you are moved to a new understanding, not only about me, but also about the resilience of the human spirit.

My Lawd

I have loved and idolized Ms. Carey since the dawn of time. But after listening to her book, I feel more connected to her than ever. From her troubled upbringing to realizing and living her dreams. I'm in awe that she is still walking among us as fabulous as she can be dawling. I'm inspired to do the work to move beyond what has happened to me and live a life that I love and can be proud of.

I loved this Mariah Carey book. Her voice was soothing to listen to and I couldn’t wait to listen each time.

Was not a Mariah fan!

I can honestly say that I maybe liked three or four of her songs. I didn't know much about her life before reading this book. I used to watch her reality TV show and would always trip on her so I figured this book would be entertaining. It was and I have a new found love and respect for she as a person. She tells her life story with authenticity and heart. She narrates it beautifully.

Loved it

It’s a must to listen to not just for Mariah reading her own book but you get to her her sing a few verses in each chapter.
The story itself is well written and really explains a lot of Mariah’s life from childhood to current life. I loved it!

A New Perspective

Overall I've gained more respect for Mariah. She told her story and it's amazing how much I can relate to her struggles with her identity of living in her own skin much like myself. Like her I'm multiracial and understand how the world can judge you.
For many years all I saw was this diva with a big attitude and never knew about her life, her family dynamic and how much she did everything to have a sense of normalcy. If I knew this before, I would've never judged her the way I did. Behind the diva, she is like all of us.
The story line at times was a bit all over the place but when you think about it, she had to do that to explain the topic she was talking about.
Thank you Mariah for the singing in your stories and being very transparent with your truth.
