In Just as I Am, Tyson takes us on the journey of her lifetime, revisiting her youth and the work of honing her craft, forging a path as a legendary actress in a time rife with racism and limitations. Tyson shares her perspective on how she selected roles after coming face-to-face with deep racial divides while doing press for her Academy Award-nominated turn as Rebecca in Sounder in 1972. I felt like she was right by side and I was in tears many times as well as laughter !

This was a great read/listen. Ms. Tyson’s life is one to look to for strength & guidance. I will now have to purchase the physical book, as it can serve as a great conversation starter. Her independence was a staple throughout her entire life, that’s a lesson for all women. Such an amazing life!
