Publisher's Summary

Some are born with magic. Some without.

Matteo, un-magical counselor to the mighty of Halruaa, has devoted his life to the truth - until he finds that he may have a hidden spark of magic after all. Now, with only a street waif for a companion, he's on the run from the mysterious Cabal. In the dismal Swamp of Akhlaur, Matteo will seek his own truth while battling a creature out of his nightmares.

But something even worse is on his trail: a relentless persecutor of magic: The Magehound.

Brings me back...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I played Dungeons and Dragons often as a kid/teenager, and this really brought me back to that world of imagination and adventure.

What did you like best about this story?

It seemed well researched in terms of D&D lore. Everything was consistent with my remembrance from my D&D days of the geography, creatures, races and magical abilities of characters. It had a nice cliffhanger, too, which made me want to listen to the other 2 books in the trilogy.

What does Kevin Kraft bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's great with the character voices. I could tell who was talking to who.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

She's a beautiful, powerful, exotic green elf wizard. But whose side is she on?

Any additional comments?

Take a trip down memory lane with this fun adventure book. Can't wait to hear the other two books in this series!

horrible narration

why do these narrators never read the story before they record it? who is editing these things?! The number of words that are mis-pronounced is ridiculous. "be-rin-ged" my eye.... Is English a second language for this fellow?! I would wish that audible would take itself and it's products more seriously and have a care for the quality of products they release.

Halruaa Explored.

It was great listening to this, as a deep dive into Halruaa. When I played DnD 2E. I played a Sorceress from Halruaa. I love the place, and hooked for more from it. This gave me that.
It took a bit to get used to the readers deep voice. But once I did. I was hooked. Can't wait to start the next part.

sorry but the performer sounds terrible

Okay, so I saw the positive reviews, but I am not sure how anyone can get past the very bad sounding voice actor.

"WIND CHARM!" in a very corny voice. Did this guy even listen to himself?

Okay, the story is pretty good though.

I did find a trick. I turned the speed to 1.25 and the voice actor doesn't sound as bad. I couldn't finish the book though. The story is so boring.

Sorry Kevin Kraft, but you need to work on your voice acting.
