Publisher's Summary

Life for Victoria Lacey should be perfect. And it is - perfectly boring.

Agree to marry a lord who has yet to inspire a single, solitary tingle? Why, of course. Smile as though this is not the thousandth time he's mentioned hounds and hunting? It's all in a day's work for the oh-so-proper sister of the Duke of Blackmore. Surely no one would suspect her secret longing for heart-racing, head-spinning passion.

Except, perhaps, a dark stranger...on a terrace...at a ball where she should definitely not be kissing a man she has only just met.

Hatred, not love, drives Lucien Wyatt, Viscount Atherbourne, to tempt the "Flower of Blackmore" into sin. Her brother has done unthinkable damage to Lucien's family, and he intends to exact revenge in the only way left to him: Ruining his enemy's sister, then stealing her from Blackmore by making her his own.

As Lucien carries out his ruthless plan, tutoring his new bride in the finer points of pleasure, her surrender leaves him breathless...and soon a new obsession awakens - a scandalous fascination with his irresistible wife.

Contains mature themes.

Lots of characters to keep track of

I had to listen to the first chapter several times and make a list of all the characters to keep them straight. After that I thought the story was interesting - actually better than most historical romances. What I liked most was the several interesting characters - men and women - whose stories I'd like to see continued in following books in the series. And that doesn't happen often. I'd definitely read any books in the series that continue their stories.

A wonderful HR listen

I wasn't expecting this book to be so good. It was Awesome, I couldn't put it down when I started. That's saying a lot, I can listen up to 5 books at a time. Well worth the credit, I'm buying the next one

Narrator's awful "british" accent ruins the story!

This could've been a good story of they had not chosen shoreline with an obviously fake and terrible accent to read. Just awful!

Horrific FAKE British accent

I will never purchase another book with this narrator. I hate it when a great story is ruined by a terrible narrator. This fake british accent bothered me from the beginning and I could not recover. At one point I thought my ears would start bleeding. I think she was going for a Rosalyn Landor impression, but fell so far short it was laughable.
The words "possibility", "cottage" and "black" ( which comes out as "block"...whish would happen when you are faking it), were just a few of the problems.
On top of all of that she made the heroine seem overdramatic and shrill. I could not finish.
Another reviewer said the same thing and I should have believed, but I was silly and took a chance. A waste of a credit. I did like the sory, as much as I could stand. I can only hope this author writes more and uses a skilled narrator, as this series has the same narrator.

Mediocre

Franklin was disappointed in the weak story line and rather unbelievable characters. Very boring and predictable. Perhaps the series improves but right now I’m not terribly motivated to continue reading the next book.

lovely brain candy

This is a romance, and follows the tropes of a romance. It does better than most at recognizing the mores of the time.

The idea of "rescued from ruin" is decidedly double edged. Not to spoil the story, but in several of the books in this series, it isn't just the women "saved", although the saving of the men is less overt.

If you enjoy romance novels, you'll likely enjoy this series.

Really enjoyed it

I was very happy with this book and would only change a couple minor things. It’s the first of this author but I’ll definitely be looking for more. There was no angst and the heroine didn’t annoy me like so many other books.

Love This Book! Scandal that turns into love

This book starts out strong with sexy scandal and gets better and better! I love how much he adores her, and how she isn't just another pretty face. I don't however like how he keeps her from her family but it all works out in the end. I mostly adore Scottish books but I'd happily listen to another in this series, such as book 3, 4 and so on (already listened to book 2 and loved that one as well).

I never leave reviews unless it's incredible

This is an incredible find. I was so tired of the generic historical romance books. But when I came across this new author I thought I'd give it a chance. Wow I'm so glad. I can't wait to hear the next book. The author writes a well rounded story. Just enough sexual tension with an incredible plot all along. The narrator starts out a little boring but omg when she gets going she's awesome. I have purchased probably 50 or more books since buying the audible app 3 months ago and this series as well as Elizabeth Hoyt's maiden lane series is the best I've read yet. Thank God I found this little sleeper I've heard nothing about.

Good narrator

The story got interesting in the last half of the book. The mystery of why Lucien’s brother and sister died was interesting.
