Disappointing

I think the summary for this book should clearly state that the authors only discuss very high functioning autism and Asperger's. If your kids are anywhere else on the spectrum then there is little you will get from this book. That was incredibly disappointing. I listened to quite a bit of the book hoping they would expand their focus, but that never happened.

It was also a bit difficult to follow as the narrator read the material like one big run-on sentence with few pauses or transitions.

Eyes Wide Open

What a great book for parents with ASD teens. So many things I knew were important but avoided because of backlash. Now I understand the value and necessity to give my son the loving pushes he needs to survive as a young adult. I've bought the book for many of my friends.

So helpful

I felt like this was more of a loving push to me, as a parent of a 9-yr old son who is twice exceptional, than anything else. This input has already impacted my parenting decisions. I can't help him to be more autonomous if I don't encourage as much autonomy/responsibility as is appropriate for his age and ability. Thank you so much for publishing this!

Perfect for Teachers and Parents

What did you love best about The Loving Push?

I teach children with Autism and find that conversations with my parents about their child's future is a very difficult conversation to have. I plan on recommending this book to my parents this upcoming school year.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Leigh Ashman?

She is a bit bland. Not the right fit for an audio book like this.

Robotic Speech

The information in this book is immensely valuable! I'm so grateful to have this insight. As a parent of an autistic teen, I am able to tolerate robotic speech, but why when it distracts from the sort of understanding I so desperately need? I have to pick my battles right now, and listening to this reader is not among them. I turned away from bluetooth and bought the book.

Important Story

This is an important book, The Loving Push," Great title tells different stories about Autistic children and their need to move into adult hood with a calling and a purpose and many have and succeeded. The narration was okay, But a great book.

Must read for parents of children on the spectrum

Excellent book to help parents raise children on spectrum to become more fully functioning adults. A must read for any parent who has a child on autism spectrum.

Good guide for parents

My daughter is on the spectrum and recently turned 12. This book gave me many practical suggestions for helping her prepare adulthood.

Best listen I’ve had

Coming from a mom of two autistic girls - one of whom wasn’t diagnosed until almost 5th grade…this book was exactly what I needed. It described exactly how I feel sometimes (likely undiagnosed spectrum mama) and how I’m sure my oldest has felt in her life.

The Loving Push...

... great mindset. Young asd kiddos often need a loving push to reach their potential but I do not feel this book represents where we are at in 2021.
There are some interesting stories about the authors life and many lessons to be learned however as the parent of an autistic child, one who is particularly articulate, I do not feel many of the recommendations or approaches contained would be helpful for him. Quite the opposite. What I know is that listening to autistic adults gives us an insight into their experience but it absolutely does not and should not drown out this generations voice. This book offers lessons to be learned by the past, an opportunity to avoid repeating those mistakes (yes they are still ongoing) and a reasoned understanding of the authors mindset. It is by no means a manual on how to get your child to succeed in life....that happens by observing them, their needs and their environment, holding space for them, advocating for them and most importantly listening to your child whether that’s vocally or in non verbal communication.

Extremely relevant for ASD children

Any person with ASD or managing a child with this condition needs this honest guidance & reality check. I want ny children to be able to function to the best of their ability in life I will be put a lot of these ideas into practice.

One drawback was the narrator was very droll & monotonous, it was hard at times to stay focused.
