Publisher's summary

The truth will set you free. For FBI Agent Blake Wilder, the price of that truth requires the ultimate sacrifice.

Blake Wilder lives with reoccurring nightmares from her grim and mysterious past. Fourteen years ago, her entire family was taken from her. Her parents murdered and her sister taken. At the age of 22, Blake joined the FBI in hopes of one day discovering the truth behind the mysteries of her own past.

Since joining the bureau, Blake has witnessed and solved many gruesome and terrible cases. Yet, the one case that changed the course of her life seems to have a way of evading the light. When a new clue about her past is uncovered and she finds that the sister she lost hope in ever finding might be alive, for the first time, Blake feels hopeful.

But with the organization that murdered her parents after her and powerful figures aligning against her, Blake has only one choice: to face her trauma and the monsters head-on.

As she’s dealing with that, SPD Deputy Chief Torres is on a warpath, seemingly willing to stop at nothing to indict Blake for murder. And there's a new enemy entering the ring - one who is more dangerous than everybody else: the Đavole - a mysterious assassin who is legendary and has never failed to eliminate a target. The only question is...who is he in town to kill?

With more questions than answers about her sister’s return from the dead and a host of enemies at the gates looking to destroy her career or outright kill her, Blake doesn’t know where to turn or who she can turn to.

With so many uncertainties in the air, the only thing Blake can be certain of is that there is no where that’s safe when you're being hunted down by monsters.

There’s no where left to run. No where left to hide. You just have to do whatever it takes to survive.

Best series ever!

I love true crime and this all feels real. The plots and background story that follows from book one is incredible. All books in the series have been hard to put down, its not often I am intrigued and want to continue. Well done stories, must read.

Green eyes?

I love this whole series, it’s so much fun and so easy to listen to, but good grief why does every character have green eyes? It’s very disproportionate to the real world and it’s starting to irk me!

Another great finale and teaser

As usual fantastic to read and I couldn’t stop reading it so I put some long hours there but I have to say that I enjoy the story it was very mysterious and I know it’s going to continue because kit and Blake need to get resolution for the parents death. There were some areas in the book were I thought as hot as a nation as she was she was supposed to think of certain things, but overall does it still look at stories, and I can’t wait to read the following one that deals with her friend vanishing mode.

Can women always win against men in hand to hand combat?

Since I pretty much devour mystery series with female leads …I see patterns. One big conundrum is how the lead can win when finally confronted with the antagonist and his henchmen. Will she need to be rescued? Will she use her wits? Or will she duke it out like her male counterparts? This series has a heroine with extensive marshal arts training who dispatches the bad guys with those skills always. She most always wins and it’s not entirely believable. One of her favorite moves is kicking him in the knee to disable him. This series adds another Wonder Woman to the mix. She squares off with a man and we’re supposed to believe it’s an equal fight. It becomes ridiculous—laughable even in this book. Absurd. I get it that female detectives are equal in their ability to solve crimes but when confronted with brute force there has got to be a difference in how they fight back. No matter how much training they need to use their intelligence, technology or an alliance with others for it to be believable that they can win.
