Publisher's Summary

A gripping psychological thriller with edge-of-your-seat suspense

Loving husband? Or total stranger?

When Ella wakes up in a hospital following a hit-and-run incident, she is scared and confused. Close to tears, her eyes fall on a get-well-soon card on the window sill, and the nurse reassures her that her loving husband will be back soon....

But Ella has never been married.

In fact, she has lived alone her whole adult life; working hard, rarely socializing, quietly harboring a terrible secret from her past.

Fear sweeps through Ella when she instantly recognizes the man who enters the ward. He is not her husband, but she knows that she must do as he says and play the part of dutiful wife. What choice does she have? He was there the night of the fire; he knows her secret, too....

Do you absolutely love twisty and unputdownable psychological thrillers like Girl on the Train, The Wife Between Us, and Gone Girl? Then you will be totally hooked by this jaw-dropping novel about the dangerous secrets behind a perfect marriage.

Leave Already!

Very unrealistic. I hate when the story just gets stupid. She had a million ways out of her situation. I kept rolling my eyes while I listened, not a good sign.

stupid

The story is so beyond stupid. What a waste of a good credit. Very upsetting.

Can't Get Through It

I couldn't get through it. Hated the narrator's voice. And if I heard Ella Bella one more time, I might have thrown up. Hated it.

Turning in Circles

It was an interesting story, I liked it well enough, but you REALLY have to suspend your disbelief if you want to enjoy it.

Without spoiling it too much: She wants to get away, but goes along with him because he has some damning information that might ruin her life…. so she doesn’t really want to get away…. but yet she plots her get-away.

I also figured out who the bad-guy was pretty early on, so the Big Reveal fell flat.

Run away from this idiotic, pointless book.

This is one of the worst audiobooks I've ever suffered through (ok 40% of the way through). Terrible plot, bland and ludicrous dialogue, a master class in terrible writing.

Draggy start

I couldn’t stand the nurse at the beginning or the long descriptions or the completely nonsensical thoughts of “Ella Bella”. I didn’t make it more than a few chapters before skipping ahead to chapter 50 just to find out the end and had already guessed half of the twist before it was revealed. Not a fan.

Good twist at the end but barely made it there

The first 90% of the book was so annoying - hard to get through. Good surprise at the end but you have to make it there painstakingly!

waste of time and a credit

I really struggled to finish this. I think I just wanted to see how bad the ending was going to be . The main character Ella is entirely unbelievable. The plot is ridiculous and the ending has so many loose ends that I swear i will never listen to another book by this author again...

Don't waste a credit

This is the hardest book to listen to. It was going no where fast, and boring as heck. I made myself listen until chapter 20, then just quit. How this book got any good reviews is a mystery to me.

Generally just kinda weird and creepy

It seemed really pretty unbelievable and got really weird and I didn't like the twist at the end at all. Mainly it was just kind of depressing.

Terrible ending

‘Not too bad’ through out, great twist near the end, but then turns into unbelievable, unbearable romantic tosh.

Pathetic weak and predicrable

So many riciculous blunders... I was astonished this book had such good reviews- it was literally cringeworthy.
I bought this due to its good reviews... but I seriously cannot understand how anyone thought this was worth listening to .

loved the tension

what a twisty tale. had me wondering just who, what and why right from the start, coming up with many answers but never getting it quite right. loved the huge tension that required constant reading to try and ease - right until that massive twist at the end! Again Samantha Hayes has not disappointed. perfectly narrated too.

Not a thrilling thriller

Read for a book club choice. predictable, in spite of the attempts of the author to throw in red herrings. Narration was quite wooden, but I'm unsure if that's due to the writing style or the narrators style.

Another great Story!

I can't get enough of this author, another one day read. The action starts immediately, with more twists and turns than a country lane. The final twist left me reeling, I didn't guess it at all. A must read book.

Shame

Found this really rather dull, twist was so clear from the off. I’ve enjoyed some of the Samanthas books before. I’m also amazed about the good reviews.

Boring!!!!!!

This book was too long and boring.
It’s irritated the heck out of me that the lead character was such an idiot.
I got a refund half way through.

Don’t waste your credit.

Great listen

Listened on a cold wet weekend. Picked the twist midway but the plot is so well written and out of the box it keeps you interested and keen right til the end.
