It’s Halloween night, 1984, in Coventry, Massachusetts, and two families are unraveling. Up and down the street, horrifying secrets are being revealed, and all the while, mixed in with the trick-or-treaters of all ages, four children who do not belong are walking door to door, merging with the kids of Parmenter Road. Children in vintage costumes with faded, eerie makeup. They seem terrified, and beg the neighborhood kids to hide them away, to keep them safe from The Cunning Man.

Outstanding, A Knockout Story
The narrator did an excellent job creating a different voice for every character, which is no easy feat, with as many as there were. I only have the story 4 stars bevause I found the constant ping-ponging of characters/time periods quite confusing at times.
However, that is easily overlooked in light of the overall story arc, plot, and the deftness with which the author keeps you guessing until the end. I'm looking up more of her work immediately!

When the touted twist makes no sense . . .
The ending ruined the book and made it a complete waste of time. Twists are great when they make sense; this one didn't.

Twist ending!!
I usually have most books figured out well before the end, but this one pleasantly surprised me with a twist ending!!

To much at once
Although the book was good and I was able to keep track of characters I felt that the ending was just too much. Without giving much away it’s just all too much. Wish they would have separated some of the stories. Just to much OMG and WOWs for me. Through me way off. Still a good read and will have left going WHAT? And BUT WHY? Lol. So definitely worth the read. Just a lot in the end is all.

Just plain silly
Story was far fetched and characters irritating. completely unbelievable and the main villian's motive was flimsy at best. . Narrator was excellent though.

Disappointed in the ending
Great book until the ending. It felt like they just got sick of writing and wanted a quick ending but it doesn’t make much sense.
