Publisher's Summary
The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.
At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.
With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

Great book, The return of modern day Mitch
This book marks the return from the Mitch Rapp of his 20’s back to his early 40’s. The last two books focused on Mitch’s recruitment and the beginning of his CIA career, but now Vince has returned to modern times with this book. The book follows pretty much the same formula as all the other Vince Flynn books. Something happens things look really bleak. Then someone in Congress gets wind of these happens and threatens to bring a heap of trouble on the CIA, but just in time the plot is foiled and Mitch and his compatriots tie up all the loose ends in a nice neat orderly fashion. It is a formula that has served Mr. Flynn for quite a while and I keep coming back as well as millions of others.
Overall the story is well thought out and well written. My only complaint is that there are a couple of characters that are introduced some time is spent developing them but then they kind of fall off the radar and nothing more than a sentence or two is dedicated to them after that. I am not sure if these characters are going to resurface in future books of if this was just to throw the reader off the trail.
Mr. Guidall delivers yet another amazing performance. And it serves to remind me that Mr. Flynn really should just pony up the money and have George Guidall narrate the two previous books of his that he chose to have other narrators read.
I myself finished the book in about three days. And as always I now find myself in a book hang over not knowing where to go to next. Maybe I will re-listen to a couple of the older Mitch Rapp books……but Mr. Flynn if you are reading this I think you should start a new series with Stan Hurley and explore some of his exploits. Or even some of the corporate espionage that Scott Coleman was involved in. I know I would pay for those books!

Vince Flynn has done it again!
Where does The Last Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
right up there at the top. Rapp & Kennedy are believable and unpredictabe
Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?
Rapp is always a favorite; he's human, with flaws and a background.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Treason against the USA? Knowing Rapp was coming, what were you thinking?
Any additional comments?
I'm gonna miss Stan Hurley. He's so cantankerous and foul, yet such a patriot. I love that about him.

The Last Man, the last novel
I just finished the Last Man, I was saving it for a special occasion, it is a wonderful book and Vince Flynn was a great writer. I am sorry I won't be finding out more about Mitch Rapp and his friends. Vince Flynn was a good writer from the beginning, I have read them all and not one of them raise the BS flag for me. His stories are plausible and great to read. Sorry you have left us so soon Vince Flynn, I have been scrambling to find someone to replace you but I cannot find anyone who is as good a writer and knew his subject as well.
Mitch Rapp is a mean S.O.B with a good heart. I think I met him once. He is loyal, brave and sometimes down right crazy, but who could do this job better?

Another Mitch Rapp Tour de Force!
I pre-ordered this book thinking that it was a sequel to "Kill Shot" - another book about Mitch Rapp's past. Instead, I was surprised to find that this book actually follows "Pursuit of Honor" chronologically, so make sure you are caught up there first. This book takes place in the Present Day and Vince Flynn brings the story into the forefront of today's issues as the US continues to work on its withdrawal from Afghanistan.
"The Last Man" has a lot of new and welcome twists and turns - some old faces return, and some unexpected things happen to Rapp. I won't spoil it for you though; you'll just have to listen and find out!

Rapp rocks
Flynn has returned to present day for his latest installment in the Mitch Rapp series. Rapp heads up a team sent to investigate the kidnapping of a CIA operative in Afghanistan. Against the backdrop of an uncooperative department of state official, an FBI investigator looking into alleged corruption, and a CIA hating senator as well as an assassin turned reluctant ally, Rapp must solve an intricate web of clues and disinformation by a master plotter.
The pacing is excellent with an almost non-stop quality in the action. The plot twists come hard and fast. Flynn also introduces a couple of surprises that may serve to reset future Rapp tales (a welcome addition) as well as set the stage for other long serving characters to bow out gracefully, while adding some new ones with critical background info that make them more than one dimensional. Each installment has always displayed a fresh quality to the characters and plot and this one is no different.
As usual George Guidall gives a magnificent performance. His voice is perfect Rapp and his overall delivery sets the tone for the plot and conveys the pace of the action.

The Old Mitch Is Back!
Great! The Old Mitch is back. And with him some of the great characters we have come to know and love. I was delighted to see this one slide right in behind " In Pursuit of Honor". So, for new fans this will be a great two-pack for you. It was fascinating to see these vunerable spots of Mitch here and there and then snap back into the tough man we know him to be. Another glowing preformance for Geo. Guidall. When I think of Mitch Rapp I hear Mr Guidall in my head. To Mr Flynn: It's good to know you are feeling better. I wish you continued improvement.

After a retrospective lull, Rapp is back
In my opinion, this may be one of Vince Flynn's very best books. For those familiar with Flynn's past challenge, writing at this level must be no small task. As for presenting "The Last Man" as an audiobook, continuing with the talented George Guidall was also a big plus. Guidall knows the characters - and brings life to them.
Vince Flynn also does what many writers can't do - he's successfully managed the inevitable maturation of an action protagonist whose career has spanned many theaters of intrigue. To do so without making Rapp either uninteresting or unbelievable takes both skill and imagination.
Rest assured, however, the slightly older Mitch Rapp won't disappoint. He's still very to the point and lethal. Even better, Flynn doesn't neglect the evolution of supporting characters like CIA Director Irene Kennedy, Hurley, Coleman and, etc. He also introduces new players - and resurrects old ones - all of whom should prove enjoyable in future stories. Flynn then weaves all these characters into a plausible fast-paced story based on complications the US has with Pakistan (and the Mid East, in general). The complications include duplicitous villains at home and abroad, dangerous thugs and inter-agency competition - all wrapped by greed and ambition.
Along the way, the author gives readers plenty of action and enjoyment while progressing to a somewhat predictable but nonetheless satisfying ending. For me, at least, I enjoy the way that Flynn "lets" Rapp and Kennedy deliver elegant justice rather than cobbling together a slew of implausible events solely for the sake of surprise.

Flynn's last Book Doesn't Disappoint
The last Man was a book that I didn't want to read/listen to. Not because I thought it was bad, but because I knew that it was the last full book written by Vince Flynn, and in a way I wanted to save it or keep it for some time in the future. Of course there isn't an author out there that would want you to not read or listen to their book, and so I started, and finished it.
I have to say, I think that this was one of the best books in the Mitch Rapp series. I found the storyline to be captivating, with Rapp coming up against a man who's genius is unrivaled in "the company". Joe Rickman, who has stolen, or gathered, the most sensitive of information, that threatens to bring the CIA to it's knees, has come up with a plan for just about every eventuality, going to extreme lengths to fool all around him. What he hasn't planned for, or better to say, what he couldn't plan for, was Mitch Rapp coming after him, with everything he has. This leads to a page turner that will keep you reading/listening from beginning to end.
George Guidall, as always does a great job at bringing the characters to life. I love to hear audiobooks read by him.
I'm happy that this book turned out so well, and I hope that the Mitch Rapp series continues long in to the future.

Vince Flynn has a compelling style and this book is a good addition to his library.

Another winner by Vince Flynn & George Guidall
The intrigue in this story brings out the best in the brilliance of The Mitch Rapp series. A book not to miss. Once again the masterful narrator of George Guidall is superb.

The Best
Another Mitch Rapp classic, favorite line. "Are you serious, you could have Mitch Rapp on a lie detector for the rest of the year and you wouldn't get a thing from him" good finish nice and tidy.

derivative crap
racist stereotypes, one dimension characters and constant pandaing to the characters ego lots of "but hes too good for thats hes the best" etc.
