Publisher's Summary

In a land where stories of the Shadow Demon keep children shivering in bed and tales of the Yorel bring hope to the commoner, Yosyph is both the reason for their fear and their hope.

By day, Yosyph appears nothing more than a mute tavern-hand. By night, he plans a revolution and slips through shadow, rescuing those marked for death by the xenophobic queen.

When he learns that thousands of his people will be sent as slaves to the mines, he must choose — fight the royal army with an ill-prepared rebellion or journey to the land of his ancestors through the deadly King's Trial. If he succeeds, he'll win his kin's loyalty and their help.

His journey grows complicated when he rescues a maiden and enrages a prince, but if he doesn't return with help in time, the people he's loved and secretly served will be gone.

Fun adventure tale

Adventure & clever insults make this a fun read! There was much I enjoyed about this book. Yosyph has an air of mystery and determination about him that I really liked. However, I have to admit that I quite enjoyed Halavant. Sure, he starts off as a bit of a prat but he goes through some real life events and bruise by hurt pride by friends done wrong he starts to change. He really grew on me and I truly was rooting for him a few times. I wanted him to rise above his indulgent upbringing and see life through the average person’s eyes.

The story has just a few female characters, chief among them is Katrin. She starts off full of pluck and spark but then the plot sidelines her. I was sad to see that since we already have a plethora of male heroes in the fantasy genre. I was hoping to see Katrin stay in the spotlight not because she is a romantic interest but because of her will and skills. Alas, romantic subplot became her lot.

There are some Christian themes in this tale and for the most part they are well woven into the plot or kept within the views of this or that character. While there were a few times where I felt the book was just tipping over into preachy, for the most part you can read this as just straight fantasy.

The tale leaves me on a good note, certainly wanting more with the next book. I need to see how things turn out for Yosyph and Halavant. 4/5 stars.

The Narration: Neal Arango was a joy to listen to. I really enjoyed his narration of this book. He had the perfect voice for our hero, Yosyph, and I loved his arrogant, quip filled voice for Halavant. Arango also had good female voices for the lady characters. His jovial yet sometimes deadly serious voice for Galliard was pitch perfect as well. There were no tech issues with the recording. 5/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by M.L. Farb. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Such A Fun Story!

I loved this book the first time I read it, and enjoyed it even more in audio form! This is such a fun story, and one that really stands out, with plenty of common themes that other recent story have, but with an original spin and unique writing voice that I love, and highly recommend! Neal Arango does a great job narrating this story, and I love how it turned out as an audiobook!

I’m excited to be part of this tour, and so glad I was able to read this title! I loved reading The King’s Trial, and really enjoyed how quickly I found myself captured by the story! Easy to read, and much harder to put down, I read this story quickly, and loved every page! This book has a good balance of action and emotions and lacked predictability, which I loved! Surprising twists and turns keep the story lively while each of the characters found themselves facing different kinds of challenges, some mental and emotional, others physical.

What a Surprise!

Absolutely loved this audiobook. It had a very well fleshed out world, great characters, some fun plot twists and flawlessly narrated. Super excited for the next installment, and I hope it comes out on audio soon! If it keeps up, this could be one of my all time favorite series, right up there with Harry Potter and the Hunger Games!

This deserves seven stars and I review several /mo

I loved this book. It has magic, adventure, intrigue, royal plots and ascension, war depicted clearly but not glorified or too vividly. But overall what makes me want to give this seven stars out of five is the overlying religious themes that give insights into how to approach God in the way that only the best authors can achieve (in the grain of CS Lewis etc. I love seeing both sets of main characters learn and grow and turn to God and others for support without being portrayed as weak or self righteous. I love this book and highly recommend the King’s Trial for fans of all fiction genres.

Fantasy Adventure

Really enjoyed the world building and character development as the story lines played out. It did meander a bit on the "Trial" but our protagonists needed to "grow" and become what they would. Plenty of twists along the "trial" and political intrigue, and for the other main characters as well. This first book ends on a good note and leaves plenty of possibilities (including a love triangle) for subsequent books in series. Recommended!

Very entertaining, and great morales taught

I really like how real life issues get answered through faith in God. Teaching a reliance on God is frequent in this series.

A great adventure

What an entertaining story. I really enjoyed the action and adventure. The complicated relationships made it even more interesting.

M. L. Garb did a fantastic job with with building up the world and the characters. I had no problems visualizing everything as it was happening. Such a creative tale.

Neal Arango took the story to the next level. A very entertaining performance.

An Awesome Fantasy Adventure

This was my first experience with M. L. Farb's work and it won't be my last as I enjoyed this story very much. Her characters are some of the most memorable that I've read in a long time. I really liked the way she described her characters and that she had definitive character arcs so the reader can see the characters' growth and development throughout the story. The story was a major adventure with many twists and turns along the way and the action was constant. I appreciate that at no point did the author use offensive language or inappropriate situations and still managed to produce a creative and fun tale. I recommend this story for others who like this genre with no misgivings whatever. Neal Arango's narration was superb and his varied voices added to my enjoyment of the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

This book with the fam 💘This book was so good!

I could tell you a brief summary of this book and get you all excited, but I’m going to do more of a blurb OK this “family“ live in this kingdom and they are thieves and have contingency plans for every happening. They are really good at what they do. So one day after a long hard day of teething and conning they’re sitting around in one friend tells The other, whatever happened to the kingdom you are from and the other friends that you are mistaken I am from this kingdom and the first princess know your mother said you’re from the desert people in the second princess I am not from the desert kingdom and this goes on until eventually he convinces his friend yes you are from the desert kingdom in a royalty there. So they have a new playing he wants to reclaim his birthright or at least find out, Why his family left there. OK I won’t say more as anything I say will be a spoiler but you can read and now the title of the book. Let me just say I highly recommend this book if you love medieval settings, Likable characters in character do you love the heat in a fight scene every now and then. The new love this book. It has cunning… OK I was gonna say more but I can’t cause spoil the ending. Just know the book is great the narrator is great he does a great job with the different voices, genders and social classes. I’ve already downloaded another book with him now riding he was that good! I can only hope we visit the desert kingdom again…
