I just spent the last month pretending to be the pet cat of an elf king. Today, I discovered we’re enemies.

In a supernatural society filled with vampires, werewolves, and wizards, I’ve always been an outcast with my ability to turn into a housecat. No one knew what I was.

Turns out, I’m a shadow—a race of supernaturals that were wiped out by the elves centuries ago.

Who explains this to me? Noctus, the elf king I’ve been staying with while pretending to be his pet “cat,” not knowing I’m the archenemy of his people. Talk about the most awkward ancestry results ever.

Now I’m stuck staying with Noctus because he can’t let me go thanks to all of his secrets I unwillingly learned as a cat. At least he hasn’t killed me. Yet.

If that isn’t bad enough, I’m being tracked by a creep obsessed with killing me because I’m a shadow, and he doesn’t mind doling out collateral damage during the hunt.

So I’ve got a mysterious elf king holding me captive in his hidden home, a slew of new powers to learn with my revealed ancestry, and a psychopath on my tail. Wow, things are looking up.

It’s time to find out if cats really do always land on their paws.

King’s Shadow is the second book in the Gate of Myth and Power urban fantasy trilogy, and is part of the Magiford Supernatural City world. It is an adventure-filled and hilarious take on the Hades and Persephone myth, with a twist of mystery. It’s packed with humor, battles, and a sweet, slow burn romance between an outcast magic user and the deadly king of the elves.

This was not as good as the first book, but it was still entertaining and brought both laughter and giggles.

Since it's a trilogy, I'll be devouring the last book now.

I must admit these books have made me curious about the rest of the books in this universe.

Entertaining

This is a great series. As a cat lover, I found myself giggling at the FMC and MMC. They are a cute couple and I love the FMC, she is naive but clever. Really a fun book

If you are a cat lover you can't help but giggle

I love this giant interconnected series of trilogies! I wish I had not yet listened to them so I could get to listen to them again for the first time. Each trilogy is well-developed, with fully flushed out characters and challenges. The shared town/society and overlapping characters brings unity to the whole collection, and it’s always fun to re-meet the characters from the previous trilogies. I am guess g there is at least one more trilogy yet to be written, and I can’t wait!

Whole Series Review - Love!

Loved this so much. Even more than the first which I loved. Can't wait for book 3.

So, so good

I continue to find the match between this narrator's voice and style the best match for the character, and the others are already good matches. This also remains my favorite of the trilogies that are part of Magiford, although I'm likely to listen to the vampire/Hunter trilogy again while I wait for #3 to post

Magiford is a great setting. For the amusement of it, I listened again to the Magical Beings Rehabilitation Center (20 hours of fluffy fun) I found the one thing I missed were the passing characters of others in the world. In this book, we get out first glimpse of our beloved vampire Hunter while Chloe tries to hide Ker in the car.

Usually, I buy audiobooks that I have already read, and that's the case with most of the Shea books. It's also the same for this trilogy. The one downside is that a poor narrator is all the more obvious because the listener knows what was lost as a result. on the flip side, when the narrator is strong, as this one is, it's additionally gratifying.

This remains my favorite Shea Narrator

I love all of K. M. Shea’s series, but this is one of my favorites. Noctus and Chloe are different from Shea’s other Magiford heroes and heroines. Chloe is super sweet, likable, adorably awkward, and I love her interactions with other characters when she is a cat. And Noctus is by far the kindest, most gentle, and humble of the Magiford heroes (don't get me wrong - I still love Greyson, Rigel, and Killian). I especially love all of the secondary characters in this one - Aristide, Ker, Charon, Joy, Pat, Shiloh, and of course the Paragon - they are all fantastic! I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out on Audible.

This is a sweet, clean, slow-burn, fantasy romance. And I LOVE IT!

AHHHH!!! ❤️

Very much enjoyed book 2, but I have to say, I have cats and none of them give me hugs like described in this book and the first book. I’m a little disappointed. Ready for book 3!
