Publisher's Summary

A Jersey boy with a knack for numbers, a gift for making people trust him, and an all-consuming hunger to be king of the business world, Tom Giacomaro could convince anyone of anything.

As a teenager, Tom Giacomaro began working in the mob-laden New Jersey trucking industry. A charming, brash-talking salesman, he climbed the ranks, and let his lust for money and relationships with New York and Philadelphia crime families send him spiraling into a world of drugs and violence. Forced to go on the lam in South Africa and Europe he returned a year later - with millions of dollars' worth of diamonds stuffed in his underwear. And that's only the beginning.

In his memoir, Tom details how he eventually hashed out a deal with the FBI, agreeing to become a special crime informant to avoid jail time - only he somehow manages not to rat anyone out and, incredibly, continues his high-finance, shady dealings, luring celebrities and other high-profile contacts to invest millions in his new business ventures. When it all inevitably comes crashing down, Tom is thrown in prison for over a decade - yet, even behind bars, he's able to get what he wants from anyone: the warden, the doctors, the guards, and his fellow inmates... and finds a way to get released early.

Cowritten by Natasha Stoynoff, The King of Con is the true story about a smart, streetwise Jersey boy who talked his way to the top and became richer and more successful than his wildest dreams. It offers an unforgettable look into the life of a man who became hooked on living life to thrilling and dangerous excess, rubbing elbows with celebrities and crime bosses, until he was humbled by the FBI, by the US Attorney, and by life itself.

Now, Tom is back in his old New Jersey neighborhood. His mob cronies are calling, his palms are itching to make billions again, and the US Attorney's office is watching. Will he stay on the straight and narrow, or will he return to his old ways and steal back his crown of crime as the King of Con?

Golden Tongue? I don’t think so

Author/narrator claims to have been given the nickname of Golden Tongue. Based on the drab, monotonous reading of this book I find that hard to believe.

IF YOU BUT THIS BOOK YOU HAVE BEEN CONNED

I bought this book looking for a interesting and twisting business story, instead i got the ramblings of a out of touch braggart who read his own book and did it poorly. wasted my money!!

What a bunch of nonsense

It started out ok, but halfway through its obvious the author is making it up as he goes. Don't waste your money.

Don't bother. A despicable conmans story.

a conman and thief robbed thousands of people of their jobs and pensions. His goal after prison should be to pay them back and more. Then he might amount to something.

Utterly Fascinating

What a life! Of course some reprehensible decisions and indefensible actions, but nothing the author doesn’t fully account for himself.

“Dis guy” I mean geez, there were plenty of times most would have thrown in the towel, and hell, he almost did. I’ve got to hand it to him, he certainly has a never say die attitude to life. Laudable.

Kept getting lost

Couldn’t handle how bored he sounded, I kept losing interest because of it. Plus there’s more than a few things in his story that don’t add up.

A Bragadocious Over Inflated Mob Story

Don't waste your time unless you enjoy mob fairy tales. Throughout the book the guy claims to be tougher & smarter than the mob, single handedly came up with trucking & garbage scams, was a cocaine drug lord, met Hoffa, Gotti, Nixon, the Kennedys, worked for every mob there has ever been. in the entire world after they all relentlessly pursued him (okay that may be over the top but no more than this book is). It even includes the cheesy New York, New Jersey shitty accents as well. Run away from this like Tom Giacomaro is coming to kill you.....

Dreadful Book

I am glad that this came as included with my Audible subscription. If I had bought it then I would have been the victim of a con. The author is not a con man - by his own admission he’s a violent drug taking criminal. He might have the “skills” to be a sales rep but from his teenage years as a gang leader progressing to drug dealing, money laundering and violent crime he’s just thoroughly unpleasant. Don’t bother.

not impressed

The story in itself is told ok. You can get hooked. But the amount of selfishness and how proudly he speaks of all his horrible crimes... can't support it. There is nothing worse in true crime than glorification of the criminal. And this is exactly it. 1 star.

Boring

Starts off okay but just repeats and repeats.

Sadly this is simply another ex-gangster jumping on the commercial literary bandwagon with a boring outpouring of egotistical waffle.

The book is comprised of one tedious iteration of ‘I’m so great’ after another., interspersed with old-faithful cliches and the usual defence of ‘I’m not a bad person - it was all my parent’s fault for how they treated me as a child.’ Formulaic, badly read and probably written by the publisher.

Yawn…

Interesting to see how the others live their lives and certainly draws you in. You can see why he was so successful. Minor repeats of sentences throughout but overall a good listen.

OK story, but You will HATE the man!

If your looking for a loveable character to warm to, hoping he runs into the sunset with the cash you will not find them here! The man is as low as low can get! You want him to get whacked... For it to end with a slow painful death. You feel sorry for his parents and kids. Total scum. I love a cheeky chappy, a salesman, a loveable rogue or even mobsters who have a reason for being a bit dodgy... This guy, pure rat! If you have read 1 or 2 mob books, you might believe 50% of his stories, if your an avid mob reader, you may be looking at fiction. Having said that, as a fictional story, it's OK. But the man himself... You just wanna smack him! One of them with no balls so he has to tell you 5 or 6 times in the story he has big balls! Loves himself... But he's surely gotta be the only one! Then again... You keep listening because of that!

Save yourself the time - buy an old man a drink

Awful. The reminiscing of a has-been, who has lost all of his family and all those who used to care about him through greed, and still can’t stop bleeting on about all the ‘hookers he used to bang’ and drugs he used to do. Half of this stuff is blatantly, demonstrably untrue. It’s literally like sitting at a bar and listening to the old drunk spin stores about the good old days which are half mutilated fact and half compete fiction. There is no sincerity, there is no humility, there is no remorse, there is no progression - save yourself the time, just go to a bar and let the local loser chew your ear off instead of this crook

Life learning - a fascinating story.

fascinating & relentless, an exciting yet tragic life story. good luck for the future Tom - hope U find the right place to benefit society. A man with super talents who could have been so welcomed in the "Legal / financial/ marketing & logistics industries on the right side if the Our "lawless societies"........
except for the cycle of Parental physical and mental abuse he suffered during childhood and beyond.
I hope Tom's future is peaceful and beneficent.
Rip Laura - I know this kind of loss personally.

Old school story telling hits the mark.

I enjoyed the authors telling of his story in his own voice. The life journey he embarked on is not for the faint hearted. What an incredibly intelligent yet self destructive individual Thomas was. It’s a great read, highly recommend if you’re a fan of New York and the mafia era that dominated the city for decades.

If you love true crime, give it a go

Initially, we found his voice annoying as our usual audible books are read by professionals. We contemplated giving it up but as I'd paid already we continued as so glad we did. His voice and story are all-consuming and we grew to love his voice and his incredible story. What a journey he took us on which made our 10 hours of a journey across the Northern Territory of Australia so interesting when there is nothing to see. Love ya Tommy x
