In this wildly imaginative novel for fans of Dark Matter and Ready Player One, listeners are transported to the near future, and when a young boy attempting to teleport gets lost in transit, his parents will do whatever it takes to find him in “the in between.”

The year is 2047, and teleportation is the cutting-edge transportation method of choice - Teleportation Services International (TSI) operates facilities in all of the world’s major cities. When Lillian, a TSI employee, wins a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation, she knows it’s just a photo op for the tech giant, but she takes the opportunity and books a trip to Tokyo with her husband Jackson and their six-year-old son Cole. But before they arrive, tragedy strikes: Cole disappears in transit.

Lillian and Jackson take very different paths to cope: Lillian wants justice for her son's death and attempts to find those responsible by conducting a covert investigation from within TSI. Jackson, meanwhile, is convinced that Cole is still alive somewhere in “the in between” and teleports back and forth from Japan, over and over again, to find him.

Ultimately, this explosive and thought-provoking story asks ambitious questions about technology, power, and our rapidly changing world.

I was hesitant to purchase this audiobook after reading the reviews.

The story is not a heavy sci-fi. I found the book to be entertaining. Both narrators were good.

If you're looking for an easy listen, I recommend this audiobook. Reminds me of a Twilight Zone story. Technology puts a family in a unexpected situation.

I enjoyed the story & the characters.

Entertainment, light

Theme was like rescuing Carol Anne from Poltergeist (without the suspense). The book was very slow and focused on details that did not move the plot forward much. I increased the speed of the audiobook to 1.75 times just to move the story ahead faster. Interesting concept, but not very original.

Could have been a much better book with some good editing and higher level of sci-fi detail.

Too slow, basic theme

Everything was perfect: story, narrator, message. It made me actually think about my behaviors and choices; how they have affected others as well as myself. The main character was so spot on in her development.

Best introspective story

I really enjoyed this book though plot wise it did drag after the first 1/3 of the book. Without spoilers the main characters actions are a bit frustrating after a while. Also I thought this was a teen rated book but listening to over 50 Fbombs near the end from a certain character changed my mind. I would have given the story 4 stars otherwise.

Enjoyable minus the massive amount of F bombs near the end

This was a very interesting and entertaining sci-fi story. It was a little verbose in parts for my liking, but other, more patient people might not have a problem with that. The story was quite good and the narrators were both top notch.

Great, creative story
