Five stars! An absolute must-read!

I have read widely in consciousness studies over the past 40 years and put this book in the top echelon of books dealing with this contentious topic. Like Egnor, I was a scientific materialist until I was confronted with evidence pointing to the greater reality in which, as Carl Jung said, we are spiritual beings having a physical existence. Egnor had a direct personal spiritual awakening. Mine was mediated through patients I had resuscitated in the emergency department sharing their stories of traveling out of body to another, wondrous world. I will buy hard copies of this book to give to my college-age granddaughters so that they don't waste precious years wandering in an agnostic miasma before seeing the light.

I think the good doctor needs to examine the young Earth Creationism writing.
I recommend Scientific Creationism.

Don’t expect a total science textbook.

This was a good overall argument for an immortal mind and soul. If you come to this book expecting it to be materialist science, “sanitized” of religious ideas, and deeply technical into neurology, you will be unhappy. But if you want a multifaceted argument for what the argument embraces, it does a very good job at communicating to laymen and people with some education. And it has a message and a purpose to change its audience, so don’t be expecting complete neutrality. I agree with the author’s views, so I am not offended. If you are from the Academy, you might be offended by some things, but that doesn’t make them wrong. Good luck.

Enlightening

Shouldn’t be missed. Its importance can’t be overstated. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Fascinating topic, weak argument

I’m science minded and open to explore what might be outside of the current science can prove or define. This book has more claims by the author than sound arguments. If you already believe in the claims then it’d be great. But not very convincing for readers who are still on fence.
