Publisher's Summary

Devoured (The Hunger, book one)

Life isn’t kind to Lance York. A full-time job has eluded him for years, his wife loathes the sight of him, his bank accounts are empty, and his wealthy father-in-law revels in his failures. After he lunges in front of a car to save a sick and disoriented woman, Lance awakens in a quarantined hospital.

A devastating plague is spreading worldwide, driving those infected with it insane. Their bodies begin to mutate into horrors that have haunted mankind’s nightmares for centuries.

The world descends into chaos as the infected flee to the shadows, emerging at night to devour the remnants of civilization. With the help of an unlikely ally, Lance must navigate through the collapsing city of Pittsburgh, striving to escape the madness of the apocalypse that unfolds around them.

Consumed (The Hunger, book two)

Lance, and his companion Cass have survived the apocalypse. Much to their surprise, that was the easy part. They've fled the city, struggling to find food and shelter, fighting against the nightmarish infected and the militant living, willing themselves to endure through each day.

Ravaged (The Hunger, book three)

Lance York, a self-described loser in another life, has rediscovered himself in the midst of the apocalypse. Along with a cadre of other survivors, including the hardened, sexy Cass, Lance has taken refuge in a compound, struggling to survive the onslaught of monstrosities descending upon them each night.

The horrors that have devoured mankind are changing, their minds rebooting like a computer. Intelligence, the lone advantage of the humans, is returning to the infected. They ravage the compound with calculated, precise strikes, chiseling away at the defenses Lance and his friends have erected.

So great!!

Quick-paced and exciting with lots of humor thrown in. The author is adept at creating characters of depth in a very short amount of time. The narrator is amazing.

Typical Idiot main character.

Barely could get into the story main characters are just too stupid. They know about zombie movies in the world, but still do dumb things. Writing like this drives me nuts.

Would have been just as good if not even better if you could take all the G#% D!#%’s out of it.

Lady Luck Isn’t Generous

The primary protagonist, Lance, has got to be the luckiest apocalyptic survivor ever. He starts off with a life riff with the consequences of poor life choices: wife that doesn’t love him, in-laws that hate him, and unable to stay gainfully employed. The apocalypse hits & he’s blessed with good fortune: near death experiences are thwarted by happenstance & he seems to always find whatever he needs despite not having any special training or unique qualities.

Had potential

The synopsis lured me in and now I wish I hadn't been so gullible. I only made it through an hour. I would have stopped sooner, but I was driving.

Weak characters and horrible narration.

The main character suddenly knowing how to shoot a military rifle and successfully using it on the first try with no evidence of prior use or knowledge is just one example of the incongruity of the characters. There was no indication of why the infection started, with only a vague description of symptoms.

The narration, I couldn't tolerate due to his. stopping. after. every. word and poor inflection.

Returned it to get my credit back

Worth a listen

I enjoyed the books despite the feeling the author was betting someone on how much BS he could get the readers to swallow.

I can imagine that a near extinction level event could result in some Mad Max type bad guys...but in this story the Psycho shows up immediately and starts acting like a tyrant.

When he is handled, we get another power mad tyrant killing the few survivors...because that is what you would do when you you are surrounded by werewolf/vampires. In reality, you might do something to consolidate and survive...but zombies alone do not cause enough conflict for this author.

The relationships are near instant and complete. Sure, why not? No sense in expending effort developing kinship when a good battle axe description will do.

It is OK enough to listen all the way through, and that is as enthusiastic as I can be.

good story. performer? eh . . .

with such a strong female lead, the reader did not due her justice. it was a good story and I enjoyed the development of the two main character's relationship, I just didn't this the reader was a good fit. the production value was pretty bad in spots too. static hisses in spots and you could tell were "rereads" were spliced in. still, I enjoyed it and am glad I purchased it.
