‘Totally gripping and atmospheric. This hypnotic timeslip about witches is compulsive reading. Breathtaking and beautifully written… Will stay with the reader long after the last page.’ Bestselling author of The Witch’s Tree, Elena Collins

Now: When Adrianna arrives at the small, run-down cottage, near the sea in rural Norfolk, she can’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. Here she can forget her life in the city and the problems she’s left behind there, at least for a while.

But – like Adrianna herself – the cottage holds secrets. And when Adrianna finds a mysterious bundle of notes hidden under a floorboard, she can’t shake the idea that they’ve been waiting for her. Especially when – in the rambling, overgrown garden – she then finds a strangely-carved stone, drawing her into a centuries-old mystery…

1646: Between her work as the village midwife and the medicines she sells from her cottage, Ursula has no need for a man. But this ideal leaves her unprotected in a world where just one accusation of witchcraft can mean certain death. So when she catches the eye of a powerful new local doctor, she must use every part of her cunning, or risk becoming his prisoner…

Can the two women – their paths bound by place and history – each find the keys to their own destiny?

Utterly gripping timeslip historical fiction, perfect for fans of The Witch’s Tree, The Essex Serpent and Weyward.

Highly recommended ***** Well written and perfectly paced timeslip manifesto of a wise-woman's ordeals and possibly the truest example of a 'witch' story for modern day readers. Excellent narration by Antonia Beamish!

BRAVO, Claire Marchant !

The story is timeless. A true tale of a woman whom faces darkness with innocence, only to become her own wise heroine. Feminine strength in a time when all women need to find their own inner power and stand strong for the generations to come.
Thank you, I look forward to devouring more from this exceptional author ✨

This is definitely not a witchy poo book that I like. But this grabbed me about 1/2 way through.

It got better as it went on

This story was so typical. It felt so ChatGPT. Even the performance felt perfunctory. Both female characters are flat, dumb, and delusion. I have little to no patience with authors who give birth to female characters like them. So desperate and silly, I shudder to think that this is how the author thinks strong woman behave. Yuck. I don’t advocate burning books but this one should be.

Typical

Sadly could not get through this book because of how terribly the female lead was. The pitiful woman who can’t see the awful man in her life plot line is old and tired.

Too bad
