Versace. The very name conjures up images of outrageous glamour and bold sexuality, opulence and daring. All of course true, but only half the story. Versace is also the legacy of a great creative genius from a poor, backward part of southern Italy who transformed the fashion world through his intuitive understanding of both women and how a changing culture influenced the way they wanted to dress. House of Versace shows how Gianni Versace, with his flamboyant sister Donatella at his side, combined his virtuosic talent and extraordinary ambition to help create celebrity culture.

Patricia Gucci was born a secret: the love child whose birth could have spelled ruination for her father, Aldo Gucci. It was 1963, the halcyon days for the "must-have" brand of Hollywood and European royalty. Patricia's mother gave birth in secret in London before she was smuggled back to Vatican City and hidden from the fashion world, the media, and the rest of the Gucci family. Aldo couldn't afford a public scandal, but he could not resist his feelings for Patricia's mother, Bruna, the paramour he first met when she worked for him as a shop girl in Rome.

The tragic story of Susan Powell and her murdered boys, Charlie and Braden, is the only case that rivals the Jon Benet Ramsey saga in the annals of true crime. When the pretty, blonde Utah mother went missing in December of 2009 the media was swept up in the story - with lenses and microphones trained on Susan's husband, Josh. He said he had no idea what happened to his young wife, and that he and the boys had been camping in the middle of a snowstorm.

Publisher's Summary
Now a major motion picture from director Ridley Scott starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver
The sensational true story of murder, madness, glamour, and greed that shook the Gucci dynasty, now fully updated with a new afterword
On the morning of March 27, 1995, four quick shots cracked through Milan’s elegant streets. Maurizio Gucci, heir to the fabulous fashion dynasty, had been ambushed, slain on the steps to his office by an unknown gunman. Two years later, Milan’s chief of police entered the sumptuous palazzo of Maurizio’s ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani - nicknamed “the Black Widow” by the press - and arrested her for the murder.
Did Patrizia kill her ex-husband because his spending was wildly out of control? Did she do it because he was preparing to marry his mistress? Or is it possible Patrizia didn’t do it at all?
The Gucci story is one of glitz, glamour, and intrigue - a chronicle of the rise, near-fall, and subsequent resurgence of a fashion dynasty. Beautifully written, impeccably researched, and widely acclaimed, The House of Gucci is a pause-resisting account of high fashion, high finance, and heartrending personal tragedy.

Just read the cliff notes or wait for the movie.
This book spent way too much time on detailed runs of stories that contribute nothing to build the true story. The details on designs overwhelmed the book. It was so mechanical. The true story got lost until more than halfway through the book. If you are super intrigued about how to NOT run a fashion or a family business, then you might like this book. Read a summary or maybe wait to watch the movie.

This story starts in 1800’s Florence with the great great grand father. About 2 hours ish is dedicated to the murder of Mauricio Gucci. It was long and drawn out.

Tedious recounting of an interesting family story
I am an aficionado of biographies and family histories and love to delve into the fine detail of the lives of others - for instance Robert Caro's life of LBJ in 5 volumes is a favourite - however this book never gets beyond tedious. The story of the Gucci family should have been intriguing but Sara Forden just doesn't capture it for me. I tried my best to stick with it but had to give up after 4 hours of listening. Narration isn't great either - everyone is given the same Italian accent except for Paulo's second wife who has some sort of Coronation Street English accent. Hope the film is more interesting.
