Publisher's summary

Michael Hollister killed his father 88 times to avenge the dark acts visited upon him.

When he was sent to Hartfield Academy, he adopted an entirely new family, including a brother, Max. Almost 40 years after he arrived at the academy, Michael and Max still live their quiet life where they shape boys into men and men into soldiers.

A trip to the war memorials in Washington D.C. turns out to be too much for Max and he begins to fade. Max has always depended on Michael for everything, but in the end, who is really depending on who?

The Heartfelt Life of Max Hartfield is a Middle Falls Time Travel short story. It includes a bonus note from the author.

What a great way to wrap up a great story

This was such a fantastic little sidebar to the Middle Falls series. It answers a few questions and despite some sad moments, was a very satisfying conclusion to Max's story.

Michael Hollister reprise...

For all that this book is labeled Max Hartfield, it is told from the POV of Michael Hollister. It was really nice getting a reprise--since not only was he probably my favorite Middle Falls book, but he is also one of the few that we never got to see him past his twenties. We left him happily ensconced as the heir to Hartfield Academy, and didn't get to see him cycle his way to the end.

Here, the focus is on Max, but it's really a buddy story about two brothers of the heart: Max & Michael. It is a heartfelt capstone to Michael's story, and the ending especially tugs on the heartstrings.

Amazing :)

Michael is my fav character to at first hate, then painfully grow to love :) it’s amazing how an author can Thales the same idea of time looping and yet reinvent it every time!! Bravo.

MAX HARTFIELD

I love all these books and what Shawn has to say after each one. I liked the ending sentence that Max said "cause Michael still needed me". Everyone needs a second chance in life.

An absolutely beautiful story

I didn’t want it to end! I’m so happy I got a chance to re-visit my favorite characters, Michael and Max. The story was perfectly written and the narrator was excellent.

Shawn Inmon’s books are like Virtual Reality for your ears.

Each book transports you to an immersive first person experience that allows you to feel and imagine each story as it unfolds.

A month ago, I was searching for an audiobook on time travel. Not just any book, but a book that had elements of a long held secret desire of mine. Since I became a young adult, I had always imagined what it would be like to fall asleep and wake up in my school aged body, with all of my gained knowledge intact.

It was almost like someone was “watching” me and made an “adjustment” when I came across The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver. I listened to the entire first omnibus with few interruptions. It goes without saying that I was and continue to be addicted to the stories that comes out of Middle Falls.

Thank you, Shawn, for sharing your gift with me. A part of me will always long to return to Middle Falls.
