Publisher's summary

His pale skin is covered with the dirt I threw over his still-warm body. His hands, marked by a struggle that ended in blood, rest over his chest. His once vibrant, loving eyes are now forever closed. I am the one who consigned my husband to the damp earth of the Glades.

Seven months ago, I lost everything. I used to have it all. A successful career in television. A wondrous, glamorous life as a small screen celebrity. A handsome and loving husband who made my life complete. Until one day, everything I loved was ripped away from me. The day the Hunter took me.

Somehow, I survived. As I refuse to answer the federal agent’s questions about my ordeal, foreboding thoughts keep swirling in my head. I can’t let them find out who killed my husband. I can’t tell them what I endured. And there’s one thing I absolutely must do.

I must go back. Before it’s too late.

Caught in the enigmatic web of an unusual case, Special Agent Tess Winnett races against the ticking clock. A suspected serial killer is on the loose hunting prey in the depths of the Everglades. Several women have vanished from the Miami coast, leaving only echoes of their existence. The clues to their fates? Locked away in the tortured mind of one survivor, TV celebrity Kiana Bayliss. Does she hold the key to saving them? Or is she the final piece in a terrifying puzzle?

The Girl Hunter is a psychological crime thriller that draws listeners into the murky waters of a serial killer's mind. Delve into a riveting journey of survival, secrets, and redemption. Fans of David Baldacci, Robert Dugoni, and James Patterson will be captivated by Leslie Wolfe's masterful storytelling.

Critic reviews

“Wow. I think I just fell head over heels in love with a fictional character. Tess Winnett is one of the smartest FBI agents and profilers I have come across yet and with analytical skills to rival Sherlock Holmes. Hats off to Leslie Wolfe for easily the best thriller I have read in this genre for many, many years!” (Manie Kilianon)

Awesome!!!

I think this is one of the best Tess Winett books! There's a lot of suspense and banter between the characters.
I finished the book in 2 days and will re-read it again!
I really hope there's a next one.

Some things are getting old

I am summing up the series, to date, with this review. Initially, the male narrators were okay. When Gwendolyn Druyor started narrating I was dismayed. I had heard her narration in the Kay Sharpe series and it was like nails on a chalkboard. The way she has a smile in her voice as someone is about to die and the babyish voice used for every singe victim. This series was just as hard once her narration started, climaxing in the book, "The Girl They Took". Even my husband, who has less issues with voices than I do, wanted the victim's mother killed off just so we wouldn't have to listen to her character's voice. Weirdly though, this book out of any book Druyor has narrated, has been enjoyable. I was shocked.

The storyline is good but there are some issues that I feel warrant mentioning. SA Pearson; he yells at Tess, threatens her to "tow the line", threatens dismissal and then turns to her for help in not one, but two personal matters. Being harsh and hateful to the point of hostility and then telling her there is no one better than she. It screams abusive work relationship.

Tess; who in every single book has been either captured or willingly given herself over as a hostage. I can't think of any law enforcement agency that would condone this. This last book, she throws all her FBI profiling knowledge out the window and overly identifies with the victim to the point of letting the victim run the case. Being book 9 in a series you would expect an FBI agent to grow and be smarter, not more reckless. Maybe she should be put on suspension and get some personal counseling before being allowed to return to work. Oh yeah, she was told to get therapy... how many books ago? Obviously she didn't and it was ignored by her boss who doesn't seem to ignore or lose track of anything.... hmm

Title is perfect..

Slightly predictable but still a good story. I would’ve liked more of Tess” backstory. In the end she was the main character to me and I missed the completion of her character.

Couldn’t wait for it to be over

Wanted the storyline to be better. Narrator ruined this for me. Will avoid her in future. I almost never leave review but AVOID THIS BOOK AND NARRATOR unless you need to be punished for something you’ve done wrong.

Stupid book, Stupid Characters, Ridiculous Narrator with Baby Talk Voice

Worst book I’ve listened to in ages. I can’t believe I finished it but I kept waiting for it to get better. Instead it got worse. Preposterous on every level.

Narrator is painful to listen to.

Book would be fine but I can’t seem to get through the drama that the narrator puts to all the voices. It’s for a book club so I will be diverting to reading rather than listening.
