Publisher's summary

A 17-year-old Texan from the wrong side of the tracks starts a supernatural detective agency - this is Fear Street for a diverse America.

Erasmo Cruz is from the wrong side of the tracks. His dad was a junkie who overdosed. His mom chose to run off rather than raise him. His only passion is the supernatural, and his only family is his grandmother, whose aches and pains, he soon learns, aren’t just from old age but from cancer.

Desperate to help his grandmother pay for treatment, Erasmo sets up shop as a paranormal investigator. After witnessing a series of inexplicable events, he must uncover the truth behind his clients' seemingly impossible claims. From hauntings to exorcisms, Erasmo soon finds that San Antonio is a much scarier place than even he knew.

A good first story

This was a good first story. I enjoyed the twists and turns. I felt the pacing was a bit off in the book but otherwise it was very enjoyable. The narration was excellent. Female characters were not the best but were passable. Above average for a narrator. I would reccomend this book.

Intriguing!

I enjoyed this book for many reasons. It is suspenseful and mysterious and keeps you wondering what is going to happen. I also enjoyed how various places in San Antonio that I love so dearly are described. I could see the characters and surroundings. The narration was perfect as well, and it was enjoyable listen to.

Surprisingly good

I almost quit listening a few times because it got graphic in places. I'm glad I listened to the end. It was worth it. The narrator was fantastic, can't wait to hear more from him.

A Coming of Age

This was a coming age of a sort of story where 2 young men faced their fears, hopes and dreams. lots of inner dialog on some tough subjects. It is a guys story, although as a mother of 2 grown boys, I could feel some of their pain. Lots of violence in a city of no mercy.

Christmas Road Trip Audible

My spouse and I absolutely loved this book! It is categorized as a young adult book. But as a mid 50's San Antonio native I had to read(listen) to the story titled after our local folklore and I was not disappointed. We hardly made any stops on our 11hr road trip in anxious anticipation of what was going to happen next in the book. Ivan Jasso's narration captured the San Antonio feel and his voice was perfect in capturing the surprise twists and turns throughout the book. For me this story is a story of love, hope, self discovery, healing and new beginnings. Although it definitely lives up the horror genre as well. I am looking forward to the sequel to this book.

A bone-chilling story, full of twists and mystery

This book tells the story of Erasmo Cruz, a seventeen-year-old obsessed with the paranormal. After advertising as a paranormal investigator, he gets caught up in three cases, each one taking progressively darker, scarier, and violent turns. Twists and surprises are layered throughout. As I read this book, I was never able to accurately guess what exactly was going on. There were several moments which left me genuinely shocked, which almost never happens. And the suspense will leave you listening well into the night.

In addition, the narrator is excellent. He infuses each sentence with a sense of dread and urgency, all the way through to the surprising ending. Highly recommend this book.

Self-discovery and a touch of supernatural

Erasmo Cruz is a young teenager being raised by a sick grandmother ravaged by aches pains caused by age and cancer. His life is ahead of him, but which direction will it take will he carve his own path or That of his drug junkie dad or a flight happy mother? Needing every spare dime to help his grandmother and keep food on the table, Erasmo turns to the only thing he knows. With his best friend in tow, both guys become embroiled in ghost hunting and a strange acting person. Driven to discover the truth and help where he can, Erasmo uncovers some terrifying secrets tinged with deadly consequences.

The author, Celso Hurtado weaves a fascinating story about a young man and his adventures with the supernatural and the living. Mixing urban history with his creative storyline, Hurtado captures his listeners. Each character is well developed in the author’s own time, not before! Teenage angst, responsibility, fear, and more are clearly communicated in his writing and the skillful narration of Ivan Jasso.

Ivan Jasso gives a rock-solid performance, unique voices, and a strong yet smooth cadence. His voice projects the excitement and fear of the situation and characters accurately. His delivery of words is smooth.

This is an interesting and entertaining book especially for those of you into ghost hunting. Cruz accurately describes the techniques and tools used by professional ghost hunters.

The production and quality of this audiobook were perfect. I encountered no issues; it was clear and crisp.
