A novel of secrets, memory, family, and forgiveness by the bestselling author of When Never Comes.
Lizzy Moon never wanted Moon Girl Farm. Eight years ago, she left the land that nine generations of gifted healers had tended, determined to distance herself from the whispers about her family’s strange legacy. But when her beloved grandmother Althea dies, Lizzy must return and face the tragedy still hanging over the farm’s withered lavender fields: the unsolved murders of two young girls, and the cruel accusations that followed Althea to her grave.
Lizzy wants nothing more than to sell the farm and return to her life in New York, until she discovers a journal Althea left for her - a Book of Remembrances meant to help Lizzy embrace her own special gifts. When she reconnects with Andrew Greyson, one of the few in town who believed in Althea’s innocence, she resolves to clear her grandmother’s name.
But to do so, she’ll have to decide if she can accept her legacy and whether to follow in the footsteps of all the Moon women who came before her.

Being a Moon Girl is not something Elzibeth ‘Lizzy’ Moon wanted to be. She is from a from a long line of women that are “… Healers of hearts, Workers of light, Makers of magick.” … women that Salem Creek have always feared and mistrusted especially in the last decade when 2 girls were exhumed from the Moon Girl Farm pond that labeled Lizzy’s grandmother a murderer.
When Lizzy moved away 8 years ago to pursue her dream as a perfumer in NYC she never planned on returning to her hometown. That all changed the day she found out her grandmother, Althea, had died and left her Moon Girl Farms. Lizzy finds she must return to Salem Creek to settle the estate and face the tragedy of the unsolved murders of these 2 teenage sisters and allegations that followed Althea through her life and death.
All Lizzy wants to do is sell the farm as quickly as possible and get back to her life in NYC but with a rundown farm in disarray and a discovery of the Book of Remembrances that her grandmother, Althea wrote meant to help Lizzy to discover who she is and embrace her special gift - this would not turn out to be quick.
“In the end, light is the only thing that has ever chased away darkness—the only thing that ever will. Seek truth in all things, my dearest girl. There can be no healing without it.”
With the help of Andrew Greyson, a young architect that has been enamored with Lizzy for the past 18 years; her estranged mother and Evvie Broussard, the keeper of bees and jewelry maker; Lizzy embarks on a journey to clear her Grandmother’s name, decide if she really wants to be the The Last of the Moon Girls or accept her legacy and follow in the footsteps of the Moon women before her.
“We upset the balance, you see, because we walk our own path and live our own truth. It’s always been a rough road for those who live differently from the herd.”
Barbara Davis is a first-time author for me, she lives about 30 minutes from me. I enjoyed her storytelling and found the story flowed well, I was captivated and entertained, well written and characters fleshed out .. although I did want to slap Lizzy a few time.
The was an audiobook and in general I was not overly impressed with Sarah Mollo-Christensen narration - while she did several different voices, the main voice for Lizzy was just a little too breathy to my liking.
I can best describe this book as a little romance, a little magic, and a murder mystery
a little romance,a little magic & a murder mystery
