Best book ever on modern education.

The book is fantastic. I enjoyed the audible version so much, I'm motivated now to also pick up the print version and to go back as a reference. The only downside to this audiobook was the narrator, which is often the case for many well written pieces. Strongly recommend

Best suited for paper format

Was a good listen but the book is formatted more to be read in print than to be listened to if you want to use it to its fullest. Will probably end up buying print or Kindle as well.

A Must Read for All Teachers

I don't know how I taught for five years before reading this book. This book is filled with actionable items to implement in the classroom today. If you are going into education, read this book. (P.S. listening at 1.25x speed helped me with the narrator.)

Clear and encouraging

Our school system has encouraged many programs that fit into the structure explained here. But the "whys" are answered here and the listing approach in the presentation of tasks make it more manageable in application.

Outdated, and quite frankly, dickish.

There is so much fluff to this book and little substance that actually has to do with the first days/weeks of school.

Their discipline examples are condescending, they have some rather sexist remarks, and their privilege is definitely showing.

Honestly this book has been more helpful by allowing me to reflect on why I disagree with them, and what I would do as a result.

4th Edition - Great but not Compatible with Ed. 5.

This is an amazing audio for this book. I think it helps to hear the information from a voice that is genuine and upbeat. It makes the reading less cumbersome, especially if you are listening along to the physical copy.
The hiccup I had was that I own the 5th edition, not the 4th. I knew this going into it, but since the covers are the same, and from what I could tell, there wasn't too much of a difference, I thought I'd give it a shot. I read through Units A & B, and a large majority followed the book, with a few minor changes, but when I got to Unit C - Classroom Management, the text (not so much the content) was almost entirely different and nearly impossible to follow along. So just a heads up, since I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere: The 4th and 5th editions ARE different! There is a different layout and chapter titles; content has been shifted, rearranged, and reorganized; and the research and data mentioned alongside the additional resources have been updated and replaced.
Regardless, this is a great resource and text book, no matter the edition! There is a bounty of plentiful knowledge here. Definitely worth the read, but it can be overwhelming (with the amount of info and excitement). Enjoy!!
