Kids walk into schools full of wonder and questions. How you, as an educator, respond to students' natural curiosity can help further their own exploration and shape the way they learn today and in the future. The traditional system of education requires students to hold their questions and compliantly stick to the scheduled curriculum. But our job as educators is to provide new and better opportunities for our students. It's time to recognize that compliance doesn't foster innovation, encourage critical thinking, or inspire creativity.

Classroom management is traditionally a matter of encouraging good behavior and discouraging bad by doling out rewards and punishments. In Better Than Carrots or Sticks, longtime educators and best-selling authors Dominique Smith, Douglas Fisher, and Nancy Frey provide a practical blueprint for creating a cooperative and respectful classroom climate in which students and teachers work through behavioral issues together.

Teach like a Pirate is inspirational
Are you in the capacity of a teacher? If so you will get some inspired ideas from this book. The passion with which the narrator/author reads the content is as if he is simply talking to you, which I like! Great book for the beginning teacher and for the veteran teacher. The audio sample given is a true representation of what you’re going to get from this book!

Reenergize like a pirate
Amazon mailed my physical book to the other side of the world. It was my fault so I bought the Digital book as well. Loved it. When I saw that the audio book was released yesterday, I realized that i want this super-mobile version on my ears as well so that this message remains in my head.
This book is a perfect combination of alignment with my core teaching philosophy as well as an important, somewhat gentle push in the direction where I want to go so that I can be a better leader in my classroom.
His excellent use of visual language and metaphors have lingered in my head and lead me ti take action both during classes and during the sometimes grueling planning sessions late at night.
There is no bad time to read or listen to this book. However, I do strongly suggest it for mid-year breaks or reenergize teachers.
I will be gifting this audiobook to others.

The power to be the teacher I want to be
I am almost 40 and just finished my degree last year. While getting my degree I was a para and spent a lot of time in a lot of classes. I was bored. Very few teachers were really engaging students. Yes, they might have great classroom management, but I’m not interested in making soldiers. Thankfully this book exists to help me identify that it doesn’t have to be like that. So many good ideas that can be used at any level. I’m excited to dive in and create some life lasting memories.

Fantastic Motivator
I’m going into year 12 and I just finally read this book. I want to read it again after just finishing it yesterday. For the first time I feel like I CAN be creative too. Thank you for that! I’ve already brainstormed my first week to make it unique and engaging, as well as my first unit. I highly recommend this book to newbies and veterans as well!
