Story
To the uninitiated, Savannah shows only her bright face and genteel manner. Those who know her well, though, can see beyond her colonial trappings and small-city charm to a world where witchcraft is respected, Hoodoo is feared, and spirits linger. Mercy Taylor is all too familiar with the supernatural side of Savannah, being a member of the most powerful family of witches in the South. Despite being powerless herself, of course. Having grown up without magic of her own, in the shadow of her talented and charismatic twin sister, Mercy has always thought herself content.

Connie Goodwin is an expert on America’s fractured past with witchcraft. A young, tenure-track professor in Boston, she’s earned career success by studying the history of magic in colonial America - especially women’s home recipes and medicines - and by exposing society's threats against women fluent in those skills. But beyond her studies, Connie harbors a secret: She is the direct descendant of a woman tried as a witch in Salem, an ancestor whose abilities were far more magical than the historical record shows.

In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary. This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She'll need to claim her own power to save herself - and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

Publisher's Summary
The war between witches reaches its terrifying climax in the final book in Wall Street Journal bestselling author J.D. Horn’s spellbinding trilogy.
Once caged in an illusory realm by blood relatives, Alice Marin has been freed into a world where the last remnants of magic are quickly passing away. Dissolving with them is the unity among witches…and their sanity. Grappling with the revelations of her true parentage - and her burgeoning relationship with Nathalie Boudreau, a psychic with her own demons - Alice and her allies, both living and dead, must draw on every skill they possess. It’s the only way to defeat the destructive forces borne of the horrifying history of Alice’s own family. That means unlocking the final secrets of The Book of Unwinding.
Now, on the longest night of the year, the streets of New Orleans will become a battleground as Alice and the few she can trust engage in a war amid the final days of magic. But the revelations that lie ahead may be too dark to escape.

Meh Ending to a Great Story
I loved the first book in the series, the second was a little drawn out, but still good. This one was.... eh. Seemed very long, like there were too many loose ends he couldn't tie up, so he built and built and built drama just to have it fizzle out. New characters were brought in to increase the tension, but didn't really serve a purpose except to make the story longer. Kind of hard to keep all of the threads aligned, especially since I listen on my commute and not in one long session. I recommend it only if you read the first two books and need closure. I do enjoy the narrator, and will look for other audiobooks read by her.

Hated it.
this was literally the most disappointing book I've ever read, in my life. loved the first 2 in the series. this one made no sence, kinda like the author didnt know how to end the series so he wrote down any an all ideas about this book, an published it. it literally left me confused. I'm so disappointed.

Boring mess.
The book would be rather interesting if it didn’t feel like a an entire other book was missing. The plot it’s self is nonexistent, characters are introduced that mean nothing to the story nor have any real depth, there is more explaining of what is suppose to be happening with out any explanation of what IS happening. More than all of this it’s just kind of boring.

My favorite of the three
The narrator seemed to finally get it right. I could hardly stand to listen at first, cringing with every mispronunciation. Maybe I just got used to it. The story felt richer as the series progressed. I loved the characters by the end. Well written, though sometimes confusing at times. That was by design I’m sure. I highly recommend the series.
