Publisher's Summary

If you've made the decision to open up your ham radio world by going for the general class license, use the program used by thousands of hams to get and upgrade their ham licenses!

The Fast Track to Your General Class Ham Radio License explains the reasoning and theory behind each correct answer on the general class exam so you'll understand and remember the subject matter.

Created by an experienced ham and adult educator, it's like having your own, patient, experienced, good-humored mentor for the exam.

To get your general class license you must pass a multiple-choice test. The general license test consists of 35 questions drawn from a pool of 462. Memorizing the answers to 462 disconnected questions is difficult, but The Fast Track makes getting your upgrade easier by explaining the logic behind each correct answer. It's simple: When you understand the material, and you have a context for the material, you remember the answers and pass the test.

Best of all, once you've passed your exam you'll have a solid grounding in ham radio basics.

  • Includes every possible question and every answer - All technical topics explained in clear, plain language, often with illustrations
  • Step-by-step instructions to solve all the math problems
  • Proven study and test taking strategies
  • Hints to easily solve many questions and avoid the traps in the test
  • Written in "learning order", not just the (confusing) order of the official question bank.

excellent book, but audible got the chapters wrong

the audible placemarks for chapters are in the wrong location making it difficult to go back and study specific chapters. I'd still say it's worth it though the book is excellent but if you are able to find it somewhere other than audible I would recommend that.

Excellent way to study for your General Exam.

This book, the one before and the one after are all excellent.
I used this series for my licensing.
The way I used it was...I listened to it once just listening. The second time I listened more carefully. I pair the book and audio book with the Ham Study app. After the second listen, I take the first test, I usually score around 70%. After the third time listening, I’m scoring 85%+ on the ham study test questions.
I possess both my Technician and General this way and am following he same studying for my Extra.

Inspiring

Michael Burnett's humorous and interesting way of teaching and speaking kept my interest the entire time… Even on things that were hard. His dry humor and creative presentation made it possible for me to have fun learning the material... and I want more.

Thank you, Michael Burnette. I passed my General Ticket last weekend.

excellent

Michael Burnette has a gift for explaining complex concepts. This series is the best resource I know of for people who want to get their HAM radio licenses.

OUTSTANDING

What a complete joy.

Let’s be honest, when most folks think of ham Radio operators, the image of Mr. Personality, doesn’t exactly spring to mind.

For me, it was something more along the lines of a white, pasty, balding guy, with black, thick rimmed glasses, grey matching Dickies shirt and pants, a pocket protector with too many pens, barricaded in an underground bunker, talking about government conspiracies, and the end of the world. UGH!!!

Michael Burnette completely destroys that image.

He is clearly a Jedi Master, when it comes to Ham Radio. BUT, he is also charismatic, charming, slightly humorous at times, and made my studying, dare I say, “enjoyable?”

My wife and I are planning on sailing around the world on our boat. And, the idea of having a Ham Radio to pass long hours at seas, and, as a back up communication source, just seemed like a wise choice. THAT, and it had been recommend by others, who take their world cruising somewhat serious—safety first, and all that Jazz.

But, honesty, the studying to pass these two tests didn’t exactly excite me. In fact, I was dreading it.

Not only did Michaels method of teaching prepare me to ace the test. But, his upbeat, very likable personality, also instilled a new level of excitement and enthusiasm as I take my first steps into this hobby.

Great Tool

Without much home time for studying, i went through the audio book 6 times during my commutes to work. I'd speed it up each time I'd go through it.
I watched one YouTube class from W4EEY to get the math down.
Add the HamStudy.org app for practice, and I aced the test.

Thanks for the great resource!

I passed my general yesterday because of this and other tools that I used.

The piece is a bit fast, but it’s just like being in a college class. I heard that darn bell during my test when I took it yesterday at least as far as I got with the study materials. I used that in combination with some other tools, and because of the series and the explanations, I passed. I do recommend this book to the person who wants to get their general license. I’m also a visually impaired amateur radio operator, so I really feel like I got a lot out of this book.

it is impossible to learn this way

it is impossible to learn this way , it should only have the right answer and the explanation and it should repeat the answer several times. it all goes so fast you cant remember anything.

Super helpful

Explanations were detailed and relatable. He doesn't just tell you what the right answers are, he tells you why they're right, and why the wrong answer is wrong. You actually learn things instead of rote memorizing answers.
