Publisher's summary

Many fall as the last enchanter rises....

The first line of the ancient prophecy keeps playing over and over in my head, but I’m afraid to remember the rest. I don’t want to think about what’s coming for us - what’s coming for him. I’ve been keeping Brinnswick safe for years; I’ve been keeping my coven safe my whole life; and now, I was responsible for keeping Sebastian safe, too. It shouldn’t have been a problem, he was my vitmea viramore, after all, and I was used to having the weight of the world on my shoulders.

What Seb doesn’t know is that everyone in the magical community is after him - even if they don’t realize it yet. They’ve been looking for him for centuries; not only for him, but for his soul. But they never counted on him having me. I will protect him with my every breath and take down anyone that gets in our way. His soul belongs with me, not in the arms of evil.

The Enchanter’s Soul is the second book in the Ellwood Chronicles and is a continuation of Sebastian and Ailin’s story. It contains explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 years of age and older.

loved the book just hated one thing about it.

i love the idea behind this storyline. and i really like were its going. there is just one thing that i just can not stand. i stopped listening to this book because of it. however i came back to the book because i could not remember why i stop. but after listening to books 1 and 2 again i remembered. it was because Sebastian was a whiny annoying character . he was supposed to be a guy who was in the military. but he comes off as a whining teenager. that as to complain about everything. it just gets to you after awhile. like, i mean come on. it wasn't so bad in book 1 but book 2 its like he is whining and complaining throw out the whole book. other then that the books great.

The Emo Boys ride again!

It's official. These characters are the Emo Boys! I think I agree with another reviewer's critique that both of the main characters read more like late teens than the 26 and mid 30's they're supposed to be. Not to mention the more emo of the two is supposed to be an ex-special forces veteran police detective. Just not realistic at all.

By the last chapters, I was laughing at how corny and immature the narration was. "You're an orphan like me, aren't you little girl? She mewled, so I kissed her head... This poor little baby had an injured wing and was covered with cuts and bruises and was so scared and sad over her family, yet she was incredibly happy to have found me," or "I'd been gone since last night, so I missed him like crazy. I moaned into his mouth and pulled him down to me..." Which brought us to the final very explicit sex scene, which felt gratuitous rather than a natural part of the plot.

Which brings me to my last critique of the sex scenes - aside from a warning to readers that they are quite graphic and not appropriate for kids! The thing I couldn't get over was how much they reminded me - some of you won't be old enough to remember - of those stories that guys would write in to Penthouse about their sexual experiences. They always had a hilarious serious tone as they wrote out all the graphic details. The writing was always rather juvenile and campy. It was a thing that guys would dream about being able to do - getting their letter published in Penthouse, having an experience worthy of the letter, an all-time sexual high. I remember scenes from 80's movies where guys would talk about it - so so funny!

That's what the romance and the story as a whole feels like: a horny teenage boy's fantasy! Interesting that the author is a woman. Does she mine her kids' fantasy writings for this stuff?

I think I'm done after this book. I mean, it might have been a little better if the author had anchored the characters in a storyline that jived more with their personalities. Rookie cop suffering from ptsd might fit better. But this guy couldn't have even passed basic training! Maybe instead of special forces he ran into the witch doctor some other place and got sucked into a whole weird world. Or he could have just been a kid who worked in a coffee shop!

Anyway, nonetheless, this one just doesn't quite live up to my literary standards. I enjoyed the first book more I guess because they hadn't gotten together yet and weren't wrapped up in their juvenile romance, Baby.

The Awesomeness Continues...

So I really enjoyed the first book...I loved the second book. I am in awe of this series. Michele Notaro's writing is phantasmic and the narration by Kenneth Obi is beyond reproach. The Ellwood Coven continues to enrapture my heart and imagination. I need to continue to the next book...awesomeness!

🎧Kenneth's Audioslaves Reviewer🎧

A magical suspense

This is the second book in The Ellwood Chronicles and you must read book 1 The Enchanter's Soul in order to understand this one. The Enchanter's Soul picks up where the last book leaves off. Sebastian has just found he has magic but can't control it, doesn't really want it and is a soul mate to Ailin. He has feelings for Ailin but wonders what is real and what is from the magic.
Ailin is worried about Sebastian and all the weird goings-on in the world with the paranormal popping out when they usually don't. He is worried someone is going to figure out there is an enchanter and come for Seb.
This was another interesting, nailbiting story once it got started, The first little bit was a bit slow and there is some constant yo-yoing on Seb and his feelings for Ailin but all in all the book is great.
I listened to the audio version and I think that makes it better. Kenneth Obi gives the characters a lot of life and adds excitement to the story with the proper emotions like chuckles sighs and giggles.
I love this series and am ready to see who is next.

Better even than book 1

I loved this! So much excitement. So much magic! Such great secondary characters. So many feelz! A teeny tiny bit of smexy times. Loads of magical creatures. A mysterious bad guy/omen situation. Lots to keep you turning pages.

My only complaint is that I wish I had the next book now!

I can see some developing side story lines and I’m super intrigued. The brothers and the friends are fascinating and do a great job of fleshing out the story to be more than just about the 2 mcs.

I loved how slowly this relationship is developing – sexually and emotionally – but still maintaining our mcs in fairly constant contact. So often the two mcs are apart and that is hard to develop a relationship. But these guys are together all the time but still going slow. I loved it!

Highly recommended – but you must read book 1 first. I didn’t read the precursor book and probably won’t and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.

Audio

Does a really good job with this. He definitely tries to give all the myriad characters a unique voice and he even goes for some sound effects. However, I couldn’t get over the voice he chose for Sebastian. Seb is a big tough cop and he chose a very meek voice. I also don’t love his timing – he paces the story a little overly dramatically that feels a bit soap opera-y. However, it’s still a very good listen and a great way to enjoy this series!

EPIC!!!!

This continuous story is so captivating and my favorite thus far!!!
An epic love story for the ages.
I love the connection between Seb and A.
They ate so sweet together and the obstacles that come between them, just seems to pull them even closer together.
I'm so in love with this world and all it's mythical creatures 😍
Needless to say I am binging this series and never want it to end!

The Narration is spectacular and hope Kenneth was able to finish the audiobooks before his untimely devastating passing, because he has brought this amazing world to life in a way that I don't think I'd be able to hear it from anyone else 😞.
RIP my friend.

Sebastian

The only thing I hated about this book was how whiny Sebastian was. I wanted to slap him and say shut up and quit whining. That might keep me from listening to the next book.

Interesting world, terrible main characters

I wish I could have finished this book but Sebastián was so incredibly whiny and Alin was so dismissive of Sebastián's feelings. It truly feels as if I'm listening to a young adult novel rather than a romance novel with slight erotica. So far the side characters who show up for a few scenes at a time are much more interesting than the main pair. I'm actually much more interested in Emeris and Jules than Alin and Sebastián. As a final note it's is interesting that ever since Emeris (so far the one character that was described to have dark skin) was introduced and any scene he shows up Sebastián reaches for his gun why is that? Even after Emeris has shown that he isn't a threat to them and tries to stay out of their way.

And so the story of the Enchanter unfolds.

The second book in this series where we learn more about Sebastian and the powers that he needs to control. But he is part of the prophecy and creatures are after him. Someone wants the control and Seb and Ailan are just in the way. Plus they still don't know what roll Emmerest plays in this and why he has a vampire as a close friend. But as a family they stand strong and can fight off whatever is coming. Or so they hope. Kenneth Obi does a remarkable job again narrating this story. He has a lot of different voices and some of them are really scary.

The story is amazing, just as good as the first. Loving, cute and sexy. The narration is well done, if a little janky with keeping the right voices.

Great series

Enjoyable story with likeable characters. The narration was good except in that of the two main characters the younger sounds older than he should.

Book 1 left me wanting more

Book 1 left me NEEDING more asap so I jumped right into book 2 and wasn't disappointed. Michele has created such an intricate universe and her storyline is SO capturing. I love how they continue through out the books and then the individual in each book as well. Her guys and their bond will make you fall for them and her world building is superb

Really enjoyable!

4.5 Stars!

This is book 2 in The Ellwood Chronicles series and it needs to be read/listened to in order.

While I was ambivalent over my feelings for Seb and Ailin in the first book, well, not really, I thought Seb was a drama queen and Ailin was a jerk, this changed in this book. I started out loving Ailin and still thinking Sebastian sounded younger and more immature, and I was more than a bit fed up with him being so difficult about everything. Although, I will admit it couldn't have been easy to find out he was the last Enchanter and that a lot of beings were after him to drain him of his power. Sebastian surprised me in the second half of the book and I ended up loving him (finally!).

Seb and Ailin were amazing together, both as a couple and heads of their family and as a force to be reckoned with when they fought against their enemies.

I'm loving most of Ailin's family, with the exception of Basil, who I keep hoping will get over himself. *sighs*

I really enjoyed this one, despite being annoyed at Sebastian so much during the first half of the book, the story captivated me and I can't wait to read what else Ms. Notaro has in store for us.

Kenneth Obi did a fantastic job with this narration, he is truly bringing all these characters to life for me and giving the story the emotion it needs to bring it to the next level.

The adventures of Ailin and Seb continue in book 2

The Enchanter’s Soul is book 2 in the Ellwood Chronicles by Michele Notaro. Book 1 completely shocked me because I wasn’t prepared to enjoy it as much as I did, and Book 2 didn’t just live it up to book 1, it delivered in spades. I love Seb and Ailin, but I think the thing that has surprised me the most about this series is just how I invested I am in the rest of the characters as well, regardless of how minor they were. The story continues to evolve, and I thoroughly enjoyed the addition of new, and magical creatures, alike.

The narration by Kenneth Obi for book 2 was just as stellar as book 1. I still love how he portrays the main characters (Seb and Ailin), but I enjoyed the new ones as well (the dwarves were a highlight for me). In a series like this where you have multiple books with multiple new and recurring characters, you will often find character voices repeated, but that’s simply not the case with this one. Kenneth truly owned the narration and gave each character something different, which is refreshing and also makes the story come alive like only the best books can. I can’t wait to listen to book 3 and I would highly recommend this series (just make sure to start at book 1).
