Our world is slowly healing after surviving a horrific war. The magical and nonmagical creatures of Brinnswick have pulled together to mend the world, but the man I think - really, I know - is my viramore, my soulmate, has somehow been left behind.

I felt drawn to him as soon as I met him, and I wanted to explore what we were to each other, but I never got the chance. Two of my brothers and I were whisked away to the land of the fae for three years in order to save our realm. But now, I’m back, and I want to pick up where we left off, only it’s not that easy.

Toby is still heartbroken over what’s happened, and it seems his past is out to get him when bodies drained of blood start appearing all over Brinnswick. As we follow leads, I need to regain his trust and help heal his broken heart...and just maybe he’ll help heal mine, as well.

Thayer is the first book in The Brinnswick Chronicles and takes place in the same world as The Ellwood Chronicles, but can be listened to as a stand-alone novel. It contains explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 years old and older.

loved this

First off, I’m a huge fan of the Brunswick Chronicles and have listened to the first three books numerous times. So it was a disappointment to have a new narrator who changed voices and general feel of the other books.
Thayer is a great character, but Toby spent most of the book in a “poor me” circle. Not getting out of it until the last three chapters.
Despite that, I love the world of magic and wonder that Nottero has created. I look forward to the narration of the rest of the series.

Love Thayer

I have read all of this series, both the Elwood and Brinnswick Chronicles and loved it. The narration, however, is a bit cringey, and I almost returned the audiobook. Maybe just a personal opinion, but I listen to all of my favorite suburban fantasies/romances on audio after I read them. Regretful that this audio did nothing to bring it more to life.

Love the series, but

I am so thrilled this new spin off started with Thayer. Toby broke my heart. I love him so much. This was so well written. James Paris is a great narrator. I miss Kenneth but that doesn't take away from the brilliant work of James.

Thayer - OMG

Thayer stitches together magic, trauma, and reunion with a weight I didn’t expect. Michele Notaro pulls no punches with Toby’s brokenness and Thayer’s guilt, but felt heavy to laden on their very brief fireside chats initially. The traumas in Toby’s fast however are terrifying and vivid and really highlight the slow burn of trust. The mystery surrounding the blood-drained bodies felt very secondary but over all a fiercely tender story.

The narration of this feels a bit more robotic than it reads, the setting descriptions can paint a mental image if you can break through the cadence of the narration.
