Publisher's summary

An Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestseller.

The worst of times calls for the best of friends in this sassy novel about starting over, from New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown.

Dear friends and army wives Diana, Carmen, and Joanie have been through war, rumors of war, marital problems, motherhood, fears, joy, and heartache. But none of the women are prepared when their daughters decide to enlist in the army together. Facing an empty nest won’t be easy. Especially for Carmen. With emotions already high, she suffers an even greater blow: divorce papers. Diana understands the fury and tears. She’s been there.

With nothing to lose and no one at home, the girlfriends impulsively accept an unexpected offer from their elderly neighbor. The recently widowed Tootsie has an RV, a handsome nephew at the wheel, and an aim for tiny Scrap, Texas, to embrace memories of her late husband. Still grieving, she can use the company as a balm for her broken heart. So can the empty nesters.

Embarking on a journey of hope, romance, and healing, Diana, Carmen, and Joanie are at a turning point in their lives. And with the open road ahead of them, it’s just the beginning.

Okay for fluff

If you're looking to keep your brain distracted from whatever ails you, it was a cute story.

Cute but Milk Toast

this is the first of Caroline Brown’s books in which the reader or story mixes up with her parents and other contradictions. At first Eli and Carmen met at the bar at the first time later the story says they had dated through high school. Really in the story their daughter is Natalie later they stay or daughter is Zoe I think it’s mom or maybe it was Rebecca but they kept confusing the mothers - daughter about 4-5 times. Nice story but not one of her strongest books-milk toast
If you’ve ever had it

Heartwarming and encouraging

This story is sweet and the characters come alive in the reading. It teaches life lessons about managing grief, disappointments, and new beginnings with confidence and joy. The narrator was excellent - she transitioned between the characters seamlessly and her slightly different intonations helped keep them straight in the reading. I enjoyed the light, positivity - like warm chili on a snowy day.

Great story

This story brought back memories of military friendships and how as an officer military wife deals with hardships and dealing with being alone raising children.
This story would be especially recommended for military wives and others who deal with their traveling spouses
This story did hit home with me, especially how the close knit families and friends stick together during rough times.

The Empty Nesters

I loved this audiobook so much, it made me cry when Smokey had a heart attack and died, and her lifelong friend Midge died. I cried so much through that sad situation. But I am so happy that they are going to the courthouse to get married, I think Luke is a terrific young man, and he even got her pregnant, that was probably from their first night of lovemaking. I absolutely loved this story! I’m so glad that she finally got to trust someone.

Usually love anything by Carolyn Brown.

This was not one of my favorites. The story skipped around so much it was hard to keep up with the characters.
