You should never speak truth to power…

The Galactic Empire is dying and chaos and anarchy are breaking out everywhere. After a disastrous mission against terrorists on Earth itself, Captain Edward Stalker of the Terran Marine Corps makes the mistake of speaking truth to power, telling one of the most powerful men in the Empire a few home truths. As a result, Captain Stalker and his men are unceremoniously exiled to Avalon, a world right on the Rim of the Empire. It should have been an easy posting....

Well, apart from the bandits infesting the countryside, an insurgency that threatens to topple the Empire's loose control over Avalon, and a corrupt civil government more interested in what it can extort from the population than fighting a war. The Marines rapidly find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of political and economic chaos, fighting to preserve Avalon before the competing factions tear the world apart. They're Marines; if anyone can do it, they can.

The battle to save the Empire starts here.

This was an ok story. Didn't grab me enough to chase onto the next in the series though. Might go for another someday.

Ok Storyline.

What did you love best about The Empire's Corps?

I think the story was very well thought out and just fun to listen to

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are well developed for the most part. Though the author does tend to repeat himself a little to often for my taste.

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

He did a fine job. Characters were well developed and easy to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, finished it in about 2.5 days.

Any additional comments?

This is a good book. It is not a great master piece by any stretch of the imagination but it is really fun to listen to. I think it is either just below or on the same level as David Webber's Honor Harrington Series. I think weber is a slightly better writer but not by a large degree.

Also while I liked the Ark Royal books I think these ones (at least through the end of book 2) are heads and shoulders over Ark Royal so far as the writing and plot go.

this book was fun

A good blending of Marine Corps tradition and science fiction. A fun romp through a spacefaring future.

Bleeding old and new.

Well written and well performed, I'm not sure if I'll finish the series tho as it seems quite lengthy.

excellent

Military scfi, a genre that I love, and there are lots of books in this series . . . so I really wanted this to be good. The first book - The Empire Corp - was okay but not great. However, I went ahead and bought and listened to the second book in the series, in the fervent hope that it would get better. Sadly, the second book was weaker than the first. Neither of them were very exciting, and through the first two books, there were no characters who really grabbed me. So that's it for me . . . I'm giving up on the series.

I also need to comment on the narrator, Jeffrey Kafer. He may have been part of my problem with the books. He has a tendency to end each sentence on a down note, draining the tension and excitement out of each sentence. It seemed to make the story a little more boring.

Ehhh. Okay, but never grabbed me

I think it's one of the best Sci fi books I've read it's good at all points of views and gives you a unique sense of emergent. the reason is that alot feels based on real events and real reactions on those events.

great

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I found the Empire's Corps very engaging. Nuttall's first series, Ark Royal, was above average but showed Nuttall's status as a freshman author. It was good, but a bit strained at times. I bought all 3 books with no regrets, but with no illusions that the books would be perfect. The Emprie's Corps exceeded my expectations, and showed the maturation of a true professional author.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are engaging and believable, and the story is quite good. No sophomore slump here.

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

I enjoyed the protagonist, the Captain.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Alone. Forgotten. Heroes when nobody was looking.

Nuttall gets better and better

What made the experience of listening to The Empire's Corps the most enjoyable?

the depth behind the fictional world

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Empire's Corps?

realizing how much the politics of the "future"mirror those in my profession

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

intonation

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

when the Marine tried to discipline the propfessor's daughter

Any additional comments?

Publisher was very helpful in responding to my inquiry about next books being published.
