Story
Moving to Prospect Close has been everything I’d hoped for. In the city, Oliver and I barely saw each other, irritable at home and rushing around after the kids. But here, the neighbors have been so friendly and welcoming, and we’re now at barbeques and playdates every weekend, all together, as a family. It’s the type of life I always dreamed of. One that’s a million miles from...before. Not that Oliver would know anything about that.

Taking a deep breath of the fresh, leafy air, Abigail promises herself: Today she is going to make her parents accept her future husband Pete’s family. She’s planned three days away from it all in a beautiful, forested nature reserve. Out here, with almost no one else around, their families will have nowhere to run. They might have clashed from the moment they met—with their stark differences in backgrounds and personalities—but now, Abigail thinks, they will have to get along.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Publisher's Summary
He thinks his secret is safe. But she knows the truth....
My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming, and everybody trusts him. Except me.
On the surface, it looks like I have it all–the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth.
Doctor Drew Devlin is not the respectable figure he makes out to be. The reason we moved to this beautiful, old property with a gorgeous view of the sea was because we needed to put our past behind us. It should’ve been a fresh start for us both.
Except I’ve discovered my husband has been lying to me again. He’s using the power he has in his job to mess with people’s lives and to get exactly what he wants–no matter who it hurts.
But he’s underestimated me. I’ve had plenty of time, in this big, isolated house, to think about all of his mistakes.
And my husband has no idea what’s about to happen next....
From the number one best-selling author of The Passenger, an absolutely gripping psychological thriller packed with jaw-dropping twists that will keep you listening late into the night. If you love Behind Closed Doors, Gone Girl, and The Housemaid, you’ll be hooked on The Doctor’s Wife.

Domestic Drama/Suspense
The Doctor's Wife feels more like a domestic drama/suspense than the gripping psychological thriller it's made out to be in the blurb. There's really way too much given away in the blurb for it to be considered a suspense novel as well - maybe suspense adjacent? That said, I still enjoyed this look behind the curtain, so to speak. It has that kind of vibe for me. It feels a little like being given an inside scoop on what the neighbors are up to, and these neighbors are up to no good.
The story is told from the alternating points of view of Drew and Fern, the doctor and his wife, and you may as well prepare yourself from the beginning because these are not likable people. At the same time, I wouldn't call either of them an unreliable narrator because they're both narcissistic to the point of bragging about things most people would want to keep secret. It's not hard to figure out where things are going, but it all plays out.
The narration is done by Sarah Durham and David Wayman, and while both were new to me, I enjoyed their performances and would listen to them again without any reservations. I feel like they both did a good job with the nuance and tone of the story. I even caught myself rolling my eyes a time or two, much like I would if someone in real life were talking the same way these characters do. That "I'm the smartest person in the room" attitude comes through loud and clear, and it's exactly how I'd think Drew and Fern would sound.
So, The Doctor's Wife isn't exactly what I expected, but I still liked it and enjoyed the listen. If you like a bit of domestic drama, something akin to a Lifetime movie, then I'd suggest giving this one a go.

Not my favorite Daniel Hurst book.....
I am a huge Daniel Hurst fan and that is the major reason why this book was disappointing.
The book was predictable, lacking Daniel Hurst's shocking reveals.
Also, I felt that the book would have been much better without the timelines constantly shifting back/forth.
Daniel Hurst is a prolific author. Perhaps he needs to slow down???
Hopefully, his next book will be better than this one.

Audiobook Review!
This is my first thriller by Daniel Hurst, and it certainly will not be my last. The Doctor’s Wife was the slow burn of a thriller, but it kept me coming back for more and I could NOT put it down. I was able to enjoy the audiobook, which helped with the multiple POV’s and timelines the author had created.
The Doctor’s Wife is about a young doctor who is having an affair on his wife. The only thing is...his wife knows it. The different POV shows the doctor moving closer to his lover, while the wife going along with the plan in hopes of ultimately getting her revenge.
Just when I thought I had this book figured out, then WHAM another twist. By getting the multiple point of views and hearing about the horrible things each person has done- it made me conflicted on which side to take. I was feeling all types of emotion while reading, whether angry, disgusted, or sad. I love the ending and good twists and turns, that is what makes a great thriller for me. Can’t wait to read more! 4 out of 5 stars!

Couldn’t stop listening
I know when I pick up one of Daniel Hurst’s books, I am in for a fast-paced twisty ride, so imagine my surprise when he lulled me into a slow burn marital drama instead of a twisty thriller. But don’t worry, it all picked up part way through and kept me on my toes. I’ve read quite a few of his books and I liked this change of pace. While I saw the very last twist coming, there were a few that caught me off guard. I have to say I’ve read a few books lately that you don’t have to wait for the twist at the end. You never know where they might happen and I think that’s a plus.
You don’t read his books for the loving characters, so don’t get put off by the unlikeable couple at the center of this. Once things start to happen, you are invested to know the outcome. Not too many details here so as to not spoil anything but trust me you’ll want to know. Their dual narration allows you to know both sides of their marital woes. And at times it seems like Fern is telling you the story as a friend.
I was both listening and reading the book, as time permitted, and I thought both Sarah Durham and David Wayman did an excellent job bringing Fern and Drew to life.
I think of the author’s books as part of the popcorn thriller genre that aren’t too long, move quickly and keep you guessing. If you love that in a book, you should pick this one up.

FABULOUS LISTEN! GRIPPING STORYLINE WITH A THRILLING FINAL TWIST ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the second novel I’ve listened to from Daniel Hurst and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them both, and I’m very fussy! “The Doctor’s Wife” had me locked in from beginning to end, and due to the plot having so many unexpected twists I binged on this in just one day… I even sacrificed half a night’s sleep because I couldn’t wait to find out what happens. The final twist was excellent! The narration was perfection, which for me is extremely important. Highly recommend this title to anyone who enjoys this genre! I’m already on the hunt for another title from this author.

I really enjoyed this book and I got into it straight away. Liked the story, the characters and the plot. It was easy to listen to and I finished it within 24hours. Sometimes I get lost with the audiobooks, or bored but this grabbed my attention the whole time.

Highly Recommended!
I found this domestic thriller very interesting, as it was fast paced, and full of suspense and tension.
The story is about Drew and Fern, Alice and Rory. Drew is a doctor who is cheating on his wife Fern with Alice. Rory is Alice's husband. Fern knows about Drew being obsessed with Alice, but she has to pretend that she doesn't. It is all very complicated, with a lot of secrets and lies, action, drama and shocking behaviour.
I was kept engrossed throughout the book, as I was excited to see what would happen next. I especially liked how the book was set in the past and the present, and although the characters were not really likeable, I found them interesting. I liked the psychological aspects of the book, and noting how each character behaved.
The two audiobook narrators were really great at their job, and they portrayed the characters superbly.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves family dramas and psychological thrillers. You won't be disappointed!

But after things went wrong with one couple, Simone was forced to go into hiding. Simone is now Mary, a mild-mannered woman who doesn't raise her voice or get angry, meaning nobody would suspect her of being capable of the things she used to do for a living. But when she finds out that her new boyfriend is having an affair, it awakens in her the person she used to be.
