"The pairing of Reynolds's narration with Sullivan's multilayered storytelling is outstanding." — AudioFile Magazine

A daughter vanishes. Two rogues are paid a fortune to find her. It isn't enough.

When Gabriel Winter's daughter mysteriously disappears and is presumed dead, the wealthy whiskey baron seeks revenge. Having lived in Colnora during the infamous Year of Fear, he hires the one man he knows can deliver a bloody retribution — the notorious Duster.

Ride with Royce and Hadrian as the cynical ex-assassin and idealistic ex-mercenary travel to a mysterious old-world city filled with nobles claiming descent from imperial aristocracy. Riyria's job appears easy: discover what happened to the missing duchess and, if she lives, bring her home...if not, punish those responsible. But nothing is simple in the crowded, narrow, mist-filled streets of Rochelle, where more than one ancient legend lurks.

Reseñas editoriales

Editors Select, December 2017

This was the first Michael J. Sullivan book I've ever experienced. That fact might aggravate some of his more dedicated fans, seeing as it's the fourth book in the series ("you have to start at the beginning!"). But I heard that it could be enjoyed as a stand-alone work, and that it definitely can, because I was obsessed immediately. Sullivan's characters really take on a life of their own, especially with Tim Gerard Reynolds giving them such a dynamic performance. Sullivan's sense of pacing is akin to a thriller writer's; each chapter is succinct and compelling, with frequent cliff-hangers that make it impossible to stop listening. Most crucial, perhaps, is the quality and subtle detail of Sullivan's world building - and his synergy with Reynolds - making it easy to dive headlong into this book. —Michael, Audible Editor

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Fans will rejoice in Tim Gerard Reynolds's return to narrate the latest adult fantasy featuring professional thieves Hadrian and Royce. The pairing of Reynolds's narration with Sullivan's multilayered storytelling is outstanding. Reynolds's sense of the heroes' personalities makes the bantering dialogue a joy to hear and enhances the tale's humor and emotional depths." (AudioFile)

The story is great, though I wouldn’t put it at the top of MJS’ works. My preference would be to see this storyline conclude and to focus on the Novron timeline and possibly a post Riyria timeline.

This book needs to be re-recorded. The second half of the book has frequent patches where the sound is distorted. One minute the audio is fine and the next it sounds like they are reading through a paper towel cylinder.

MJS is great, the audio; not so much

What about Tim Gerard Reynolds and Michael J. Sullivan ’s performance did you like?

Tim Gerard Reynolds should be in Audible's Narrator Hall of Fame. Michael J. Sullivan takes us on another epic adventure with my favorite duo. Delving ever deeper into Ryiras history gap MJS spins gold and TGR brings it to life! Oh how I hope MJS keeps writing these I've had it on pre order for the past 5 months!!

They're Baaack...!

Not one of his best in the series. I wanted to like it but unfortunately it didn't work out.

Relatively mediocre

One has to truly appreciate how the tales within this world stay fresh, exciting, and utterly engrossing... Imo one of the best of either Revelations or Chronicles... Particularly delightful is the stories within stories within stories layering, both obvious and not so, and how they link up and pass by one another... Foundationally a micro and macro look at the haves and have nots, flavored and accented w/ a compelling mystery, expectedly great characters old and new, and some outta the park banter and whimsy... Found myself constantly annoyed when the outside world intruded, but sunk down deeper and kept taking it in... Worth the wait!!

As Excellent As Ever

Any additional comments?

I wish I knew the timeline of the book when I first started listening, but I did enjoy this installment.

A lot of people have mentioned the edits in the audio. As someone who has a recording studio, I am amazed that the editors let this slide. It was very sloppy. Obviously, the edits were done at a different location(sounds like they did it in someone's bedroom) and using non professional equipment..

While it is difficult to match quality with overdubs done at a different location exactly, it could have been done a lot better. I it sounded like very little effort was put into the attempt.

Not the best in the series, but still very good

A great upward spiraling adventure about the strong versus the weak, the advantaged versus the average, the arrogant versus the meek, moderated by two lovable characters. Performed with excellence.

Fun emotional ride.

Once I started with the first books, I have chain read everything Michael has published. So I could just be sick of them, but I felt this was the weakest book so far. I still really enjoyed it so that’s why I went 4 instead of the usual 5.

Great, but weakest in the series

It's hard to find fault in any novel that Sullivan writes that involve Royce and Hadrian and this one hold true to that claim. From diabolical villains to fantastical golems, the dual again use their unique mix of superior warrior skills and stealthy assassin preference to uncover and, if a bit clumsily, save the day. Not a good town to be a royal in, though.

An entertaining addition to the Riyria saga

Another great story in a series of great stories. I hope these adventures continue. I highly recommend this book.
