Publisher's Summary

No one takes what's mine.

The lovely attorney kept a secret from me. A baby she’s been carrying since Valentine’s night.

The night we were thrown together by the roulette wheel. She never contacted me. Meant to keep me in the dark. She’s about to find out what happens when you cross a bratva boss.

Punishment is in order. Sequestering until the birth. And I’ll use that time to win her surrender. Because I don’t just plan to keep the baby - I plan to make his mother my bride.

And it would be much better for both of us if she were willing.

Audiobook Enhanced the Story

Update (Audiobook) 21 March 21

I listened to the audio version on this book, and I think it enhances the story. At least for me it did. I don't know how accurate the Russian accents or language was an the audiobook, but it added that little something extra to the tale. In fact, I enjoyed actually hearing the Russian being spoken.

Review: 23 October 20
I started reading "The Director", and realized that Ravil and Lucy's story started in the last Valentine Roulette book. I went back and read " Prelude" so I would understand their beginning.

After reading Prelude, I also realized that it wasn't necessary to read it first in order to understand want was going on in this book.

I initially had mixed feelings about Ravil and Lucy, especially with her being an attorney. Also with the whole Bratva wasn't supposed to have a wife and child connection thing. I could not see how he and Lucy were going to reconcile all the issues at hand.

After Ravil discovered Lucy and took her back to his penthouse, the rest was pretty predictable. Although, you could almost forget that these were Russian gangsters. It was a real family atmosphere.

What I couldn't understand is how Lucy could look down on Ravil. Her father made his reputation and earned his living off of defending members of the Italian mob. Lucy made her living defending the same gangsters and added a Russian gangster to her client list. Lucy also made a deliberate decision after her night at Black Light without any intention of ever informing Ravil. So, while Ravil was wrong in the way he handled things, Lucy was not much better.

Ravil was the head of US operations, and everyone was supposed to fear him. He actually came across, as a supportive friend, a mentor, and a protector to the people that lived in the Kremlin. I couldn't look at him in a terrible light, because he didn't do anything horrendous. He just made a lot of threats.

I didn't like either of Lucy's parents. They seemed very judgmental. Once again, based on her father's career, her mother reaping the benefits of said career, and her father's philosophy about representing people he knew to be guilty. I could understand not wanting your daughter involved with a criminal, but since that is who she spent most of her time around, could they really be surprised?

Then we get to Lucy's friend Gretchen. What she did, and then what she did to clean up the first thing she did was ridiculous.

All in all, it was a surprisingly predictable Russian mafia romance with a hint of D/s and spanking. There was a definite HEA between the Bratva leader and the defense attorney. There was also a link to a bonus story, but I wasn't able to access it. Maybe because I was reading the ARC. This wasn't a bad book. I think it was a lot more tame than what I was expecting. Even with the "kidnapping", it came across as a kind of sweet, sexy romance in a contradictory kind of way.

I would give this book 3.5 stars, if for no other reason that it kept me interested to the end. I really wanted to see the direction it would take and how things would be resolved.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader copy of this book.

Lucy and Ravil

Lucy, an attorney, is paired with Ravil, a Bratva director, at a BDSM club and gets pregnant. He finds out when he has an appointment at her office and sees her baby bump. She never told him about the baby. He ends up kidnapping her to take care of her until the baby is born. He was awesome the way he took care of her. He thought of every and anything she could possibly want or need except her freedom. One of her friends finds out Lucy was not on bed rest and calls the police on Ravil and his crew. They are promptly arrested. This was a very enjoyable listen although I felt that the book ended rather abruptly. I am sorry there is not a part 2 to find out how things turned out for them and their baby boy. Benjamin Sands did a great job with the narration.

Worst mafia story I’ve ever read/listened to

If I could give this a 0 I would. I hate when characters who are supposed to be 35yrs old are written like a 16 year old. I absolutely couldn’t connect with either character. The “alpha” mafia boss was a bag full of jello who is constantly feeding and pampering the female character. It was simply ridiculous. The female character was wishy washy for a 35 yr old lawyer. “Should I stay with him? He pampers me and he’s wealthy”. Yet she thinks he’s trafficking women. Even the sex was unbelievable and over the top. I can’t recommend this book.

Taking a Bratva boss by surprise!!

I listened to Ravil and Lucy’s story and to me, Benjamin’s voice dripped the Russian mafia and left me with goosebumps. I loved how strong Lucy was and continued to hold her ground on what she wanted. Ravil was over the top possessive Dom that was emotionally closed off. Watching him melt for Lucy one hot, steamy moment at a time was perfection.

Reading or Listening - this is the BEST!!

Another example of reading and listening bringing out different aspects of the story.

This is an amazing series, and this is one of the top stories for me. The captor shows the most kindness the captive has ever know. Heartwarming and heart wrenching. I love the cleverness of the language used as a weapon.

Absolutely love this!!

Love Russian Bratva Audio Books

If they are done right then the narrator(s) speak with a Russian accent and this narrator, Benjamin Sands, didn't disappoint! The book was awesome and sexy, then through in the Russian accent and swoon...

This book is definitely worth listening to!

Wonderful Story

After having read Prelude, I was so glad to get the full story of Lucy and Ravil. Ravil may have kidnapped Lucy but there is so much more to him than that. They are great together and I really enjoy the push and pull between them. You really have to read the story to understand Ravil's motivation and how they can end up with a HEA. The narrator ‘s are incredible job with all the voices especially with the Russian accents. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

Always a pleasure to read a Renee Rose story

First let me say that the narrator definitely brought the sexy russian accent. perfect voice. perfect narration.

This is Book 1 of the Chicago bratva series.
It's a great start to an exciting new series.

This book sits in the Taconi universe( check it out if you haven't read them yet) so expect that bad boy with redeemable qualities vibe.
Great characters. Story unfolds at a perfect pace.
I really enjoyed it. It has all the elements of a good romance with a healthy dose of steam. HEA is an absolute.

I am a fan of Ms Rose's stories.
I find her writing style conducive to a rather enjoyable read. The ending might have a certain predictability with the whole HEA concept but the journey to get there is not.

I highly recommend. It's got my 5* approval.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed listening to Benjamin Sands. He brought the characters to life.

The story is about a Lucy lawyer coming to terms with the father Ravil of her unborn child being a bratva chief. Who Lucy has hidden from Ravil. Once he finds out , he wants to revenge her lack of honesty.

Ravil has had a hard life but is good to his men. Lucy is trying to come to turns with her new situation.

I did enjoy this story. we have domaince and submission and love. with misunderstanding.

the director

It's just one of those things, I had read the book and had a very strong idea of the two characters. The narrators interpretation just really put me off. I could nt finish it.

What an Incredible kick off for the new series

When you are gutted to reach the end of a that was The Director for me. I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. Lucy had a great attitude in how she dealt with being kidnapped by Ravil. Sometimes felt like he needed some common drummed into him, but the love they had for their unborn child was so lovely to witness. So many options for the next book in the series with the side characters excitedly awaiting their stories.
