*NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER*

An “outstanding” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) blistering thriller featuring a brilliant and unorthodox Army investigator, his enigmatic female partner, and their hunt for the Army’s most notorious—and dangerous—deserter from #1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille and Alex DeMille.

When Captain Kyle Mercer of the Army’s elite Delta Force disappeared from his post in Afghanistan, a video released by his Taliban captors made international headlines. But circumstances were murky: Did Mercer desert before he was captured? Then a second video sent to Mercer’s Army commanders leaves no doubt: the trained assassin and keeper of classified Army intelligence has willfully disappeared.

When Mercer is spotted a year later in Caracas, Venezuela, by an old Army buddy, top military brass task Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor of the Criminal Investigation Division to fly to Venezuela and bring Mercer back to America—preferably alive. Brodie knows this is a difficult mission, made more difficult by his new partner’s inexperience, by their undeniable chemistry, and by Brodie’s suspicion that Maggie Taylor is reporting to the CIA.

With ripped-from-the-headlines appeal, an exotic and dangerous locale, and the hairpin twists and inimitable humor that are signature DeMille, The Deserter is the first in a timely and thrilling new series from an unbeatable team of True Masters: the #1 New York Times bestseller Nelson DeMille and his son, award-winning screenwriter Alex DeMille.

This gripping series opener from legendary author Nelson DeMille and his son Alex DeMille is followed by Blood Lines, an edge-of-your-seat thriller of global espionage, and concludes with The Tin Men, a high-tech, high-stakes finale.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Go-to narrator Scott Brick delivers this first installment of a planned trilogy featuring Army CIS officer Scott Brodie and his partner, Maggie Taylor. The pair are in Venezuela looking for Delta Force deserter Kyle Mercer. Brick narrates in his usual breathless style, which is perfectly suited to this page-turning thriller."

And Scott to tell us.. what's not to like!?!? great story great narration, Cascades of close calls, heroic escapes, steaming jungles, dastardly villains, twists and turns you thought you figured but not, and collaborated by minim-DeMille... this is a great book. my personal favorite type of suspense thriller. well done well done thank you thank you.

Corey & Kate Part Deux... YAY...!!!

Nelson Demille and Scott Brick are a big reason for my addition to audiobooks. So I was very disappointed with The Deserter. A potentially gripping story is dragged to a near snails pace with rambling descriptions and a lot of insignificant dribble that has little to do with the plot or the unraveling of events. Character development is weak. Only the antagonist and subject of the deserter search, Captain Kyle present any complexity. At its core this is a story about a rogue CID officer and his gorgeous partner who happen to be pursuing a very dangerous Delta Force deserter in Venezuela. The key points of the book seem to be that Scott Brody, one of the main characters, has a penis and wants to get laid. Greatly overdone, this sophomoric attempt at humor is irritating. The book is not without some interesting moments but it's tough not to give up on the book in between them.

Nelson DeMille never lets you down. When you begin his books you know you are in safe hands.

Wordy. Obnoxious at times. Other times Brody made me lol. Took forever to get to the end and then skipped right over it. Great character development, but it was too much for me. Ultimately I finished it because I was invested in the characters, but left disappointed.

Nothing like a 11 hour book taking 17 hours
