Publisher's Summary

Adrian forgave himself. The undead have been banished and he's accepted the love of friends, family, and some strangers. He's started a better life.

Bastion grows day after day as pilgrims come to put down roots near the vaunted Trinity. Crops are growing, babies are being born, supplies are being salvaged, restful dreams are being had, and there's even talk that the government is surfacing to reform.

All his problems should be getting better now, right?

But some battles start after the last shot is fired.

They call themselves The Northern Valley Cooperative.

Adrian's known about them for years. Always on his fringe, never in his face, they built a fortress out of a ski resort, and brought everyone near them to heel. And now, with winter bearing down on Adrian's world, the NVC is marching south.

Are they friends, or are they foes?

Either way, Adrian's got a loaded gun on his hip, and he's surrounded by people he'd die for.

He just might.

The Dealer of Hope contains Adrian's journal entries from September 21, 2013 through November 30, 2013. It also contains the side fictions "Desperation", "Junkyard Dogs", "Strange Bedfellows", "No One's Home", "A City Laid Asunder", and "One Last Hurrah".

“Mr. Philbrook has come back with a fresh voice and story, without abandoning everything his fans loved about the series. It’s like a homecoming where all the warm feelings of familiarity drain out in dread as the front door opens.... Welcome home.” (Jeffrey Clare, author, All Things Zombie

Fantastic Listen

Once again, James Foster knocks it out of the park with his voice acting. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Chris Philbrook has created an impressive universe, and I look forward to more of his stories.

Good job Chris, and good job James!

Adrian's Undead Diary is back!

Adrian's Undead Diary is back! I know there have been the fanfictions and all, but those just didn't quite have the same flavor as Philbrook has. I have to say that this series really solidified my love of the zombie and post apocalypse genres. So when I heard about this next installment coming out, I had to get my hands, I mean ears on this as soon as possible.

If you have not listened to any of the Adrian's Undead Diary series, you're in luck as this is the start of a new chapter in the adventure. Sure you might miss out of a few tidbits. But Philbrook made this as easily approachable for new readers and listeners as I think he could. Fans of this series will not be disappointed and noobs will not be scared off.

Now that there are no more zombies what in the world are Adrian and his encampment to do? Well, as in most apocalyptica, the people are the ones to fear the most. Faced with a new group of survivors, The Northern Valley Cooperative (NVC), that are well organized and very possibly better armed. As always, Adrian proves to be smarter than your average bear and has been training the survivors at Bastion very well. Just what will happen to our favorite toe pusher?

I really appreciated, as always, the side fictions included. Not only do they help build the full scope of the apocalypse from different points of view. But it also helps to break up and enhance the Adrian storyline.

If you are an AUD fan. This is a no-brainer. Get it now, why are you reading this and not listening?!? If you have been waiting for the right time to delve into a wonderfully entertaining zombie post-apoc series, now if your time.

Listening to James Anderson Foster voice Adrian was like putting on your favorite piece of clothing. There was a sense of ease and comfort that came over me. Maybe that makes me a little biased but this performance was flawless. I even tried to find something negative to say and here is the best I could do. Foster has a unique conversational narration style, where it is just him telling a story. Because of his style, Foster need not have a completely unique character voice of every character. Simply he changes up the tone and cadence and you just know who is speaking or playing "narrator". Fully interpreting and expressing Philbrook's embedded emotional states and pulling me in hook, line, and sinker.

Audiobook was provided for review by the narrator.

Philbrook just turned the dial all the way to 11

Masterfully written addition to the AUD world, filled with characters you love and those you love to hate. The post-Cassie world is proving to be as interesting and compelling as the time before it and this book sets up the potential for an epic fight to come.

This series delivers.

A word on the Voice Talent - Foster is just spectacular. He gives life to the words in a way that transcends a plain read - this dude performs.

Back for more

Like I said in my review of the book, it's awesome to see Adrian and the gang back and to see what they've been up to since Adrian saved the world. Adding the returning voice talents of James Foster and it's like going back home again to visit old friends.

When surviving becomes living

What does our Adrian, the zombies worst enemy, do when the Zombie disappears from the Zombie Apocolypse? He starts to live and to plan how to take care of his people. Living may be harder than surviving. Added bonus, the reader gets to meet another Ring family member. As always James Foster's narration is perfect. He is the voice of Adrian and I cannot imagine an AUD book without him.

Well worth the wait!!

Feels like I’ve been waiting for this book my whole life! I loved Adrian’s journey so far and couldn’t wait to see where we went next.

I started this book and Adrian’s voice as written by Chris Philbrook and voiced by James Foster was like coming home to family. I’d missed them all so! We re-enter the story about a year after the zombies all fell. The Bastian has been in a sort of honeymoon stage where things are going just about perfect. Crops are growing, people are happy and productive and no one has been lost since Adrian made his choice. We find that people are making pilgrimages to meet the man they have learn about in their dreams to join him, to thank him but also just to see that he’s real.

So what can possibly go wrong?

We finally meet the Northern Valley Cooperative. The things that we have learned about them paint a very bad picture, but is the picture true? Will they be friend or foe? Trust is hard to obtain in this new world, do the NVC deserve it?

While that story is being told we also meet Adrian’s younger brother, Thomas. I won’t spoil anything here, but we start back at the beginning of his tale and as a result we still get zombies! We see what he’s dealt with and his perilous journey trying to survive. I can’t wait for that full ride and am excited to see the brothers re-connect. I know that’s where we have to be heading... or at least I hope so!

Chris Philbrook does an excellent job as always writing a story that makes you laugh, cry and feel like you are reading about friends you know and love. We again get Adrian’s journal entries, but like before we get other stories. Stories that fill in blanks, that broaden the picture and paint a full landscape.

If you loved the first 8 books you will love this one too, it fits in seamlessly. If you haven’t read the first 8, what are you waiting for? This series will pull you in and keep you wanting more! However, saying that, I do believe if you were to start here you would be fine. The author does a great job of filling in the past in case you need that background.

If you like zombie tales with great characters and a story that keeps you entertained from beginning to end this is the series you want to read!

The most fun I've had with my headphones on!

Adrian's Undead diary was way outside of my normal go to books. For years I had read the standard best sellers and celebrity book club suggestions. I found this series by accident and I am so glad I did. Honestly, it's so much fun! Chris makes every character colorful and genuine. I have listened to James Foster narrate so many books after I listened to these because he is one of the very best! And I have gone back a listened to the whole series many times. Book 9 is everything I craved for the main characters and then MORE! I have now read many series and books in the genre and I can say without a doubt this one is my favorite! Next level awesome! Can not wait for 10!

My GO TO zombie series.

Let me start by saying....I hate reading. I'm a lazy reader and I very infrequently finish a book I start let alone a series. I probably won't even proof read this review as I write it or after.

In February, I wandered through my local comic book store and came across the "Local Authors" section and was drawn to Chris Philbrooks books. An author who writes about Zombies and Dragons?!?! I bought Dark Recollections and couldn't put it down. After that I renewed my Audible subscription and finished the AUD series within a few months.

I love the way Philbrook writes, his attention to detail stands out to me. I love how Adrian is brought to life through his journal entries. I felt like I was part of the series. There were times I cheered out loud and times I cursed Philbrook......one twist made me take a day or two break from listening, out of pure anger. No other book (or movie) has drawn me in quite like AUD has.

So, now Philbrook and Adrian are back with the newest installment of AUD with The Dealer of Hope. Hearing James Foster voicing Adrian again was like catching up with a distant relative. Like the previous entries, it is a story that will pull you in from start to finish.

Things are going well at Bastian and there is tons of catching up to do with all of your favorite characters. Long gone are the days of scouring for ammo, now finding and developing resources to maintain life is the new craze. Adrian has always been able to outsmart and outmaneuver his foes......now he is met with a comparable enemy. I won't spoil the story for you, pick up this book and this series!

When I described this series to my brother and good friend, I told them that it had the unpredictability you wish The Walking Dead had mixed with the plot twists of A Game of Thrones. I found this to remain true with AUD:TDOH.

I'm "patiently" awaiting Philbrooks next release in the AUD series, until then it's off to Dragons roaming New England.

It's back and the quality is still rising

I'll admit that when this book dropped I was worried that the series might have jumped the shark or that there wouldn't be enough meat on the bone to continue the story but I'm happy to say my fears were unfounded. Not only does the book continue the story perfectly but it also raises the quality of the immersion even higher because of the world building that has gone before and the characters that you already love. If you're a fan of the earlier books then definitely dive back in to this one and if you haven't read the original series then go and grab Dark Recollections and you will fall in love with it. The AUD series displaced some serious literature to get a place in my all time top ten and I can't recommend it highly enough. Not only is the story fantastic but the pairing of James Foster as a narrator is an absolute match made in heaven.
