Resumen del Editor

Number-one Amazon and Audible best-selling novel

Tesser, the dragon of life itself, is one of seven: Earth’s primordial draconic guardians, destined to oversee its development and safety.

Species rose and fell, and one day, 10,000 years ago...Tesser disappeared.

The golden dragon woke up this morning, buried deep beneath the city of Boston, with no idea how he got there, and no idea how humanity grew so fast and learned so much while he was away. He is lost; a fish out of water, with no contact with his brothers and sister, or any idea of what threatens his home. Where are the faeries? Where are the Minotaur and unicorns? Where are the selkies and all the creatures he fostered, and loved?

Where is the magic?

He’s got a lot of catching up to do if he’s going to find his missing sister Kaula, and stop an incursion of daemons from beyond the Veil.

Learning English from watching Kevin Smith movies at a coffee shop is probably not his best first step, but not all heroes get handed a cape.

Welcome to The Reemergence.

"Vibrant storytelling, with an unusual protagonist...." (Georgina Parfitt, Towerbabel.com)

Possible Hit Series

The book hangs together and gives a different tack on the origins of the world. Usually this type of novel hangs heavily on Greek myths or other origin stories. This one is different and takes a new, more modern look at this theme.

Well put together and ably narrated. It is long, but rather easy to listen to so the listener doesn't care.

Do NOT miss this fun fantasy!

Terrific tale!!!
There's Maddie: a brilliant scientist and her good friend/co-worker Alexis; Abe: nerd/geek/accountant/sorcerer-in-training; Mr. Doyle: British sorcerer with failing magic/Abe's mentor; Spoone: a good cop/former US Army Paratrooper. And bad guys, and evil Legion (you might remember him from the New Testament). And Tesser.
Tesser assumes human form to learn about what he has missed in human development since he was ambushed and sedated centuries ago. He interrupts a rape (while stark naked) and becomes quite the phenomenon. He becomes acquainted with the other main characters (oh boy, does he ever!) and then the fun REALLY begins! You see, Tesser is a DRAGON!
Very engaging and addictive. The plot is fast-paced yet twisty, and anybody who knows Mercy Thompson, Atticus O'Sullivan, and Harry Dresden will feel very much at home with Tesser. The only warning would be about language: I have 4 boys and worked with cops and veterans for years, so it seems entirely natural to me, but some folks...
James Foster gives an amazing performance! It is unbelievably difficult to portray so many male voices, yet there is a quality which he gives which allows the reader to easily differentiate who is speaking, or if it is mind mutterings and who is doing the muttering.

sincerely wanted to like it

What did you like best about Tesser: A Dragon Among Us? What did you like least?

The central idea is rather amusing and I generally like urban fantasy so my expectations were high, probably too high due to all the glowing reviews. I would have discounted my own first impression as "o'k, may be it's a debut" were it not for several very good debut books that I was lucky to meet with recently.
Pros and contras:

Pro - the main idea is good and permits various approaches and a lot of adventure and character building plus potentially lots of humor.

Contras: 1)nothing of the above is in the book. The characters are flat cliches (from the dragon himself down to the cops). They are more like stick marionettes, rather than more or less real people (and yes, even urban fantasy needs realism and logic within it's own world)

2) the language is repetitive and cluttered. This books needs a lot of editing.

3) no action at all. I am currently at chapter 26 (out of 60!) and nothing happened. A lot of talking and repeating same talks in different chapters. But the hero is basically nearly at the same point as he was in chapter 10. Same about everyone else (I can not consider listening to "oh, he is so hot, all the girls look at him" for the n-th time, interesting action.

4) perhaps the most unfortunate for the book - no sense of humor. Not a glimmer, not a trace.

If you’ve listened to books by Chris Philbrook before, how does this one compare?

I haven't and - unfortunately - judging by this one, I won't.

Have you listened to any of James Foster’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

It's a decent performance and it's not the narrator's fault that the text itself is simply boring.

Could you see Tesser: A Dragon Among Us being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Cut it in half, add some action, special effects and anything could be made into a movie LOL

Any additional comments?

Plastic cups in a bar?! In a bar where couples go to? LOL That was the funniest thing in the book.

Dragons, Magic and even Leaf Mail!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, a well done novel with all the fantasy characters you could wish for.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tesser: A Dragon Among Us?

I won't give away the plot by blabbing details, but come on, it has Leaf Mail, how could it possibly be bad?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I listen to audio books while I work because work is mind numbing. So I expect the book to take me away and entertain me. This novel does it very well and I wish this was a series.

Fascinating Characters,Wonderful Narration

In the first 10-15 minutes of listening to this book, I had the sinking feeling I wasn't going to enjoy it. But I had received the audio book in exchange for an honest review so I knew I would listen to the whole book even if it took me a month to get through it.

My initial reaction was SO WRONG. The book became so entertaining it only took me 2 days to listen to the audio!! The characters were well developed and the authors description of the settings made you feel like you were there watching the story unfold.

I enjoyed all the characters but the characterization of the seven dragons was extraordinary. The author expounded on the peculiarities, brawn and vulnerabilities of each one transforming them into fascinating characters.

The perspicuous narration added an extra layer to the reading experience. Each character, and dragon, had a distinctive voice that well matched the personality created by the author.

If you are looking for a fantasy that will go beyond the boundaries of reality I recommend you read Tesser.

Crude Horny Dragon Wows Babes

First, the writer is quite good but relied way too much on profanity throughout the novel. The story itself wasn't all that novel since its premise as to how it relates to dragons is very similar to Game of Thrones.

Absolutely loved this story

I was sceptical as I am just getting into reading fantasy. The mix of past, present , legend and magic along with wonderful, realistic humor made this book very easy to enjoy.

Pleasantly Surprised

By the publishers summary this could have been a good book or it could have easily been a crappy book. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a pretty good book.
The book is what I would consider to be a light read, it isn't overly technical and doesn't require the reader to have any previous knowledge to enjoy the book. The story is well paced and keeps your interest without a bunch of places where you just want it to move on to something more interesting.
That said, due to language and content I would not consider this book to be appropriate for children, but more appropriate for late teens and adults. I think a little more depth and background could have been added for each of the main characters without slowing the story down, and would have been interested to hear more about them.
Overall it is a good solid story that will entertain you without making you have to work at keeping up with what's going on or burying in loads of technical jargon you won't care about. Will definitely buy the next book!
