Publisher's summary

Jeanette Peterson and her sister, Abigail, are running from a dark past and hiding from an even darker future. When they happen upon the Brody Hotel in Topeka, Kansas, they're given a chance at a whole new life, one where they can choose who they want to become. When Jeanette assists the town doctor with a difficult case, she realizes she has a calling and a passion to become a nurse.

Dr. Phillip Wayment is a set-in-his-ways bachelor, more than happy to run his medical practice alone. When Jeanette asks him to mentor her, he's hesitant at first, not wanting some woman underfoot. But as they work together, he comes to realize how valuable she is to his career...and to him. Will the secrets from her past ruin what they've built?

MY TAKE
I've really enjoyed the stories in the Kansas Crossroads series. These novellas are short, sweet reads, but they aren't short on depth. The characters are often dealing with (or in this book running away from) serious issues.

I loved how feisty Jeanette became in pursuit of her dream to become a nurse. The good doctor was set in his ways, and when she called him on it, he also showed that he could learn and eat a slice of humble pie. As the book also shows, he had a kind heart. The romance happens kind of quickly.

I read the very short intro to the Nurses of New York series "Sea of Strangers" that shows Jeanette in her first weeks at nursing school. It also carries over an unfinished plotline from this book. So, don't forget to read it too!

The narrator did an okay job.

Clean romance

This book was pretty good. It held my interest, but I think I would have liked it better had I read it instead of listening to it. The narrator seemed too chipper in serious parts. It doesn’t quite end on a cliffhanger but it doesn’t completely tie up all the loose endings- you would need the next book to know what happens to the main characters.

The Dark and the Dawn

Another great book by Amelia Adams. This is a great series and I look forward to every book. Jeanette came into her own. She came out from hiding behind her sister, and showed the courage she had all along.

A WESTERN ROMANCE

What a romance and it has it all .
The story plays out like an old western and it takes the listener back to the old west .
It has drama , secrets , new beginnings and a touch of sweet romance .
The audio book will touch at your heart strings and then make you want to shout for joy .
'' The bitter becomes sweet " The dark turns to light "
Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series .
The narrator did an amazing job ! Very talented with her voice and can act out the different characters very well .

Wonderful story!

This is a well written story about overcoming adversity, and of course, finding love. This one might be my favorite in the Kansas Crossroads Series - they just keep getting better and better! I love this series, and Amelia Adams’ writing.

Moving and enjoyable story

A moving peek into the past full of fun and some tears. I love a story that can make you feel and see it in your mind and this is definitely one. I can't wait for the next one and the NY nurses series.
