Publisher's Summary

An impossible journey. A spoiled rich kid. It's a recipe for disaster.

Hale Firena has everything - looks, money, power, more girls than he knows what to do with. But in one night, everything changes, as a bloody coup turns Hale into a penniless refugee on the run for his life.

Hale's not cut out for real life - the thought of holding down a real job is almost more horrible than the pirates and bandits chasing him. Is Hale's swagger enough to see him to safety, or has his luck truly run out?

Hear the story of Hale Firena before he joined the Confectioner's Guild in this Confectioner Chronicles prequel novella.

The Confectioner's Exile is a young adult fantasy mystery perfect for fans of Maria Snyder, Erika Johansen, and Gail Carriger.

A Tasty Installment

Oh Hale...

This story is a prequel to The Confectioner's Guild and follows Wren's friend Hale and his troubled journey to becoming a guild member. I recommend listening to book 1 first and then the prequel, it's the order I read them in and, to me, it helped me add depth and layer to a character I already knew.

Hale starts out the story as a spoiled rich boy who never had to do any truly hard work in his life. Then political upheaval hits and everything Hale thought was so secure suddenly vanishes. He has to flee the only life he's ever known with little more than his mother, brother, and the clothes on his back.

He grew up in a world where his father's name and title meant everything and ends up on a journey where the only thing that matters are his own actions. This is problematic for Hale at first and he makes sometimes silly and sometimes costly mistakes.

Throughout this story the listener gets to watch Hale grow and mature into the person Wren meets in The Confectioner's Guild. A must-read for fans of that book.

Very Intense story

This book is a prequel to the Confectioners Guild.....

I had already listened to the Confectioners Guild, so this book filled in the background for Hale...

It was a very intense and heart wrenching story, but tells us a lot about where Hale came from.

Intriguing

I enjoyed getting to see Hale's past. It was a bit heartbreaking but gives perspective about his character. It leads up to Hale entering the the Guild.

5 Lucky Stars

Love love loved this! I was so bummed it wasn't longer, though I knew it wasnt a full length novel. I love Hale to pieces. It was fun to have it from his POV. It's especially funny being in his head. And I enjoyed getting to know about his past. If you like Hale you'll love The Confectioners Exile. I read it after book 2, but I think it'd be best after book 1, which is what Luana intended. Could be read at any point and still enjoyed though.
As usual, Ms Navarro did a bang up job! She's wonderful.

Couple Favorite Lines:
"Yeah, you eery old corpse"

"You dont look so good.."
"You don't look like a trunk of coin yourself."

Hale's story

This short story helps us get a better idea of what Hale is really like and why he acts the way he does. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and the adventures they experienced along the way. I was sad when his brother was killed by the raiders and I cheered when he won back his mom with his luck. It explains why he was fit for the confectioners guild using his luck to infuse into the treats. I hope we get to see some of the other characters again in future books. I really enjoyed the narration, she did a great job bringing the characters to life.

Great into to the series

This was a interesting intro to the world of the Confectioner’s Guild books. It was sad but also kinda fun how a heist style book is. The narration was good as well, good pacing and kept me interested. Overall I would recommend.

An easy listen

I enjoyed learning about Hale and how he began. I wasn’t ready for it to end! I thought the Narrator did a good job. I had not read any other books in this series, but this book makes me what to go get the others!

Great Addition to the Series

The Confectioner's Exile is a fun excursion in The Confectioner Chronicles.
I enjoyed listening to the audio version of Hale's adventure to the Guild. Well narrated, I was invested in Hale's story even though I knew what would happen eventually. In fact, it gives a lot more insight into the character and enjoyed getting to know him better.
If you enjoyed the first book, you can't skip this one!

I received a copy from the author, but all opinions are my own.

Gamblers Love

This novella really gives a better whole picture of where Hale came from that brings him to the person he is when we meet him in the first book of the confectioners chronicles . His Story is complex and the anguish that you feel once’s you hear the whole story of his complex relationship with his family really makes you see him a whole new light. We don’t always know how a character comes to be and i really enjoy it when the author takes the time to give you that information. The final gamble at the end of the story is really gets your heart racing even knowing that Hale has the gift of luck you still hold your breath for the outcome. This is a must read for this series.

I love to hear the back story of characters

Narration was lovely

The story hooked me from the beginning and it was a shame it wasnt a full book. I am hoping in the future there will be more adventures with much more use of the special properties of the foods.
