Publisher's summary

This is a book about common sense—what it is, how to make it, and how to put it into practice across all contexts of leadership and life. It's also a book of stories from my leadership journey across continents, cultures, and contexts (e.g., combat, business, and government). In this book, you’ll learn what I learned and what many other common-sense leaders across the ages have learned before us:

  • What is common sense
  • How our brains "make sense" of what's going on around us
  • How to use common sense to motivate, inspire, and persuade
  • How to keep cool in a crisis and make sensible choices about what to do next
  • How to use common sense to select the best people and build the best teams
  • How to create a common sense of shared purpose and direction
  • How to live, learn, and lead the “Common Sense Way"

Potent Communication = Potent Teams = Results.

Blaber is a master of listening to, communicating with, and understanding both allies and opponents. If you can communicate with someone, then you can unite them with intensely potent purpose.

Too trumpy toward the end

This book is just okay; not as interesting or enjoyable as his 3M book. It takes an unfortunate trumpy turn toward the end, which trumpheads will enjoy if they manage to finish the book.

A must read if you want or currently "lead".

this should be required reading for everyone who wants to be a leader whether in the civilian sector, the military or even among friends or family planning an event or trip. Blaber details how and why good leadership is dependent on our natural instincts that are too often ignored for no good reason. So far, he is my favorite non-fiction author in my short time here on Audible. Will also buy the hardcopy of this book immediately.

Straightforward view more leaders should take

Too many policies and procedures are in place that don’t make sense but we follow them because “it’s the way we’ve always done it”….

How to learn common sense

They say that you can't teach common sense. Follow Pete's principals for learning how to teach your mind the method of common sense. Pete 's been there and done that and more.

Pete does it again passing on his knowledge & expe

Loved his first book, The Mission, Men, & me. As a Chicago Police Officer on US Marshal Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Pete passing on his knowledge and experience is priceless. He is a legend, hero, and amazing leader (look at his background) Both books teach about leadership, communication skills, being a selfless teammate, and mental toughness. The Common Sense Way breaks down what he explained in his first book, and he makes it so easy to understand and relate to. He breaks down our thought process, how and why we think how we think or act/react the ways we do, and also follows up with stories from his life experiences. It is amazing how well Pete is able to breakdown and explain some complicated science terms/lessons. Getting to learn these skills from a hero, leader, and man's man is invaluable. Everyone needs to read both books, not just if youre military/LEO, because they teach us so much about life, understanding our thought process, and leadership. The skills and knowledge he passes on are skills we use and can improve on in everyday life because he explains and breaks them down so easily to understand. Thank you Pete for being so humble, for your service to our great country, leadership, and passing down your valuable knowledge & experiences.

Excellent!

Common sense is a lost practice in today’s world. Spoon fed and brain dead are the actions being lived by the majority. Pete Blaber nails is with real world practical experience honed across the globe.

Off the rails

Good for the first 6 hours and then went off on a tangent the last hour. Narrator was too monotone for my liking.
