Publisher's Summary

In The Case for Impeachment, distinguished professor of history at American University Allan J. Lichtman illuminates exactly how the impeachment of President Trump might work by showing how his actions - past or future - make him uniquely vulnerable to impeachment proceedings. From his dealings with Russia to his conflicts of interest at home and abroad to the numerous civil suits involving him, Lichtman zeroes in on Mr. Trump's key areas of weakness.

Professor Lichtman also offers a fascinating look at presidential impeachments throughout American history, including the often overlooked story of Andrew Johnson's impeachment, little known details about Richard Nixon's resignation, and Bill Clinton's hearings.

Many historians and legal scholars agree that we are facing uncharted political waters, and most citizens - politics aside - want to know where the country is headed. Professor Lichtman has correctly predicted every presidential election since 1984, including the election of 2016. Now he is focusing on the 45th president of the United States, demonstrating his view that it is not a question of if President Trump will be impeached but a question of when.

Every American should read this!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Case for Impeachment to be better than the print version?

Every American should read this - no matter your political persuasion. You may or may not agree with the author's assertion that the book is even-handed politically - (I agree that it is, although I am not a Trump supporter), but I feel all Americans should better understand a few things that this book strongly presents:

1) Which actions & matters can lead to impeachment - Impeachment happens so rarely that the great majority of Americans have no idea what factors may actually play a role. This book illustrates different impeachable offenses by referring to historical examples and relating them to the current President's actions when applicable.

2) Donald Trump's previous actions, in a wide range of contexts, that could/would qualify him for impeachment. No matter your political persuasion, Americans should know the things that Trump is on record as having done. You may be surprised. If you're a Trump supporter, even if you may find that you're not very concerned, you will be more informed and able to better talk about or think through these past actions when they come up in conversation or news stories.

3) What Trump can do to avoid impeachment. Again, no matter your political persuasion, these specifics are important to be aware of. If you are not a Trump supporter, knowing Trump's expected plans of defense will alert you if/when he begins circling his wagons. Unlike other reviewers, I think this information was valuable to include in the book so we can better interpret and respond to what we're likely to see happening in the future.

At the most basic level, I feel it's valuable for Americans to know the offenses Trump has already committed and which are most likely to lead to impeachment. On election night, I was hoping that someone would quickly write this book, I'm so glad Lichtman was the author and that he did so well putting these issues, applicable previous offenses, and the brief historical context surrounding impeachment into layman's terms.

Very worth your time - direct and to the point.

Enough already! Donald Trump needs to go!

this information was comprehensive and thoughtful. I feel as though I know everything there is to know about Trump that I need to know with regard to his Presidency and the road that will navigate to his Impeachment. I hope that Mr. Trump heeds the warning summation in this book.. The summary is all that Trump needs to read and a map for getting his Presidency back on track which is what is paramount to anything else he does in the very immediate future like NOW!!! This book is a must read for anyone who cares about our great Nation period!!!

Complete historical background plus a plan for today

Allan Lichtman gives us an historical description of why the framers of the constitution included impeachment as a necessary way to remove a dangerous president. This book will both inform you and motivate you. I recommend it highly.

I give it 2 weeks

I have a degree in PS but I was not aware so many things can get you impeached. On 4/26 Trump did 2 things that could get him impeached We need to start calling his lies what they are, a crime and impeachable offense

Lisa R

If you only listen to one book about Donald Trump's presidency then I strongly urge you to select this book. Allan Lichtman presents information about the American judicial and congressional systems in a way that is accessible and engaging for everyone, regardless of their knowledge or understanding of the inner workings of our political infrastructure. It simply presents a balanced observation of Trump's presidency and predicts a potential outcome, backed by facts along with an alternative for Trump to consider. The narrator was excellent, and I was completely engaged throughout the entire book.

A quick, and informative view on the perspective

I learned a lot about politics other than Trump's issues which was nice. I listened to the audio book and the narrator was sometimes too monotonous at times.

Lichtman leaves no rocks unturned

Lichtman says it like it is: Trump has already behaved so questionably that Impeachment can begin for so many reasons.
