From David Cay Johnston, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of the bestselling The Making of Donald Trump, comes his New York Times bestseller about how the Trump Administration’s policies will affect our jobs, savings, taxes, and safety—completed revised and updated.

New York Times bestselling author and longtime Trump observer David Cay Johnston shines a light on the political termites who have infested our government under the Trump administration, destroying it from within and compromising our jobs, safety, finances, and more.

In It’s Even Worse Than You Think, Johnston exposes shocking details about the Mexican border wall, and how American consumers will end up paying for it, if it ever gets built; climate change, and all about Scott Pruitt who spent much of his career trying to destroy the agency he now heads; stocking—not draining—the swamp, despite his promise to do the opposite, Trump has filled his cabinet with millionaires and billionaires; and the Kleptocracy, where Donald Jr. and Eric run an eyes-wide-open blind trust of Trump holdings to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest—but not the reality.

With story after story, It’s Even Worse Than You Think "diagnoses the Trump administration as a…government by the least qualified and most venal among us” (The Washington Post). This is “a momentously thorough account of President Trump’s alarmingly chaotic first year in office…a precise and fiery indictment of an unstable, unethical president that concludes with a call for us to defend our democracy” (Booklist) and is “urgent, necessary reading” (Kirkus Reviews).

Thank you Mr. Johnston for putting this all in one book. Who would ever believe the American people could elect such a fool.

All the things we never knew

it is overwhelming how Trump is dismantling our democracy and social protections.

today's news is focusing on conspiracy with the Russians so all the other important news falls away and is largely left unreported.

We are in dire trouble.

this book pissed me off. because it told the truth

A grand summary of the hypocrisy and horror of this administration. The narrator is great as well. I’ll forever hear “Trump quotes” in his voice when I read them. A must read (or listen).

Excellent work

Much more detail of how much damage Trump policies are changing America for the worse. Three more years should push us back 50 years and delay progress for another 25. He sure is running the country as his businesses. poorly as he would say really really poorly. Good Help Us!

It really is worse that most think.

All should pray that this president is not reelected! It is scary what could happen.

A Must Read All Never-Trumper should read this!

It is very insightful. I think the writer, spun too much negativity. Facts are simple. It was a great point- counterpoint book. I would recommend it to those without a lot of knowledge concerning Mr. Trump or politics and policy.

It makes it easier to believe, American society has been marred by its political, social, and economic incongruences by a select few. If you're into conspiracies without a factual basis, I'm into History and Political Science. So, I enjoyed the approach to curb people's image of Trump. While simply sticking to factual statements and lack of follow through on Trump's part concerning his policy, Johnston provided much needed clarity.

Throughout his lifetime Mr. Trump has definitely over inflated his accomplishments, scheming and denying [lying] seems to be his most prized talents.

Good read, I'd recommend it.

Excellent analysis of Trump and what to expect of this administration. It enlightened me about how dire a position our country is in. The damage that this man is reigning on our society is appalling. America has to wake up to this danger.

Alerting the country to a clear and present danger

Very educational and well written. Thought provoking and highly interesting. Everyone should read to get a clearer understanding of what this administration is doing to this country. Writer takes you step by step through the craziness of all that has been transpiring since Trump took office. David Johnson’s summary at the end of his book was superb and directly to the point. Excellent book.

Throughly enjoyed this book...

Excellent content well delivered ... it is painful to hear what is really going on with this administration, but it should be required reading / listening for all Americans. Much easier to stick your head in the sand. Some realities and facts were so upsetting, I had to listen to the chapters in short sessions, or risk getting too depressed. Knowledge is power, though --- and as difficult as it is to hear what's really going on, it's important for us to know. Thank you, David Johnston, for continuing to shine a spotlight on the dark underbelly of the current power structure.

Excellent, but Painful

David Cay Johnston is a working journalist who has covered Donald Trump for decades, and has written two previous books about him. In this book, he looks not at Trump's personal life and all the possible, ah, colorful details, which at this writing are much in the news, but strictly at his actions as President, and his business dealings that explain and illuminate those actions.

This is very much a fact-based book, examining what Trump has actually done, and the practical effects, as well as the direct contrast between Trump's specific and oft-repeated campaign promises to help, for instance, students struggling under student loans or workers who aren't finding jobs because companies have moved those jobs overseas, or to help small businesses, and what his policies really are. Trump has appointed Betsy DeVos to head the Dept. of Education. She has no real education experience, but is deeply involved in for-profit education companies. Under Trump and DeVos, President Obama's progress toward protecting students from predatory loan practices by for-profit schools are being reversed, not improved. This is just one easily summarized example. To fully understand this example and others, Johnston's careful detailing of the actions, their background, and their effects are necessary.

He lays out Trump's many conflicts of interest, and the extent to which Trump's approach to the Presidency is truly different not just from our most respected Presidents, but even from the ones we've considered incompetent or corrupt. We see how tangled, contradictory, and profoundly unhelpful his immigration actions and policies are to the American workers he has promised he will help with those immigration policies are. Again, another example, one better understood with Johnston's detail and context than in a short review.

This is an important book. It is fact-based, not ideology-driven. You will learn by reading or listening to it.

Highly recommended.

I bought this audiobook.
