Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times, USA Today, and internationally best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with The Burning Shadow, the steamy, shocking second installment of the Origin series that will leave listeners reeling.

When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux - only to discover she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected.

Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past. There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is - and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous...and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.

Awesome!

Predictable but still awesome. Jenn does not disappoint with her alien babies. Luc and Evie are great! I love them. But Daemon and Kat are still my favorites. Pretty much my review is just that I need book three NOW!

Great srory. Exceptional Narratipn

I find Jennifer's books tragic and intense. So much ao I think I will choose a very superficial and fun story for my next read! I greatly enjoyed revisiting the unique and imaginative Lux universe and catching up with our dear friends - they are woven into tbe story in fun ways but this is Luc and Peaches story and it is totally gripping.

Saskia's narration is superior - one of those rare situations where I wanted to race back to the audiobook in preference to reading.

Holy Alien Babies

Jennifer never disappoints. The sequel was better than the 1st book in the Origin series. At 1st, I didn’t think this series would be able to hold a candle to Lux. But the author surprised me, This series is just as fantastic, and even more mysterious.
I loved the virus plot seeing Luc and Evie growing closer. They are my new favorite couple Luc is my new book boy friend. He’s arrogant, funny, and loves his woman like she’s the only person in the world. He’ll also fight to the death to protect the people he loves. Luc is just my type. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds in book 3. Knowing Ms. Armentrout, it will be a wild ride. Her writing style and creative story telling are exceptional. She is my absolute favorite YA author.

Holy alien babies and origins and burning shadows!

That was another unforgettable story in this world that I don’t want to EVER leave. I grew so attached to these characters, experienced so many ups and downs with them that I feel them like they are part of my family now.

I don’t know where to start with all the emotions I experienced with this book. It was intense, it was sweet, it was romantic, it was action-packed, it was funny and also sad at places, it was full of twists and turns and gave me all the feels. And this audio version was simply amazing. Saskia Maarleveld gave so much life to the characters and depth to the story, Loved her performance as Evie.

The first part of the book was a bit uneventful in terms of fights but I loved it nonetheless. I enjoyed the revelations of some long-kept truths and the slow-burning romance that was growing with each page. I fell head over heels in love with Luc’s character. Not that I wasn’t at this point but he completely stole my heart piece by small piece.

Evie was his match made in Origin heaven and his better half. They were so great together and their love grew even stronger than before. I loved these slow, sweet and very romantic moments as much as I loved the crazy action-packed ones.
After one point things started happening one after another and the story swallowed me whole. It was a real page-turner. So intense, wit lots of jaw-dropping scenes and some nail-biting ones. Absolute whirlwind of events, revelations and new developments that left me wanting for more.

I had tears in my eyes every time someone from the Lux gang made an appearance. It was so cool to have a glimpse of their lives 4 years after the craziness that was Opposition. I don't want this story to EVER end and to leave this world and the characters I grew so attached to. Lux was the 1st I read from Jen and it'll always have a sentimental value for me, but this spin-off story is taking it to a whole new level. It’s absolutely amazing and keeps the intrigue going the whole time.

It’s so fun to see a modern day fantasy

This is my favorite take on alien invasions I have read (or seen on tv for that matter). What a fun story!

Binge!

Couldn’t stop listening. Armentrout writes the best captivating stories. Working on completing all her series, this one is just as great as her others. Love the pop culture references and the fun dialogue. Narration is great! Now for book three!

Great series and fantastic writer

Absolutely love JA’s writing. She creates imaginary worlds you are pulled right into. Already bought the 3Rd book. Such a good storyline. Was one of those, I think I know what’s going to happen..... oh, didn’t see that coming!

5 Stars for The Burning Shadow

5 Stars for The Burning Shadow

My thoughts (spoiler free)

The Burning Shadow is the long awaited second book in the Origin series and I loved it! The story picks up from where The Darkest Star ended and it feels so good to spend time again with these characters. Evie is still struggling with the truth of her identity and her friends are by her side to support her. Luc is still the bad boy alien but fans see more of his sensitive and passionate side. Their romance is slow building, with a mix of tender and steamy moments. Luc’s ranks in my BBF list jumps to the top because of his heart-warming revelations and protectiveness of Evie. JLA amazed me with his voice and often left me weak in the knees. Along with the romance the story has humor and I love the characters banter. It’s clear with this teasing how much love they have for each other and how they have become a family. There is also suspense, action and heart-breaking scenes that kept me glued to the story. The audiobook was 16 hours long and I tried to not rush into listening to this book. I did not want this book to end!

Saskia Maarleveld’s narration for the audiobook was excellent. She brought the characters to life with their unique personalities and emotions. Combined with JLA’s talented writing, the audiobook was entertaining and I highly recommend listening to this version.

I can’t wait for the next book!
