In the magical and historically rich city of Siena, Italy, old paintings are as common as cobblestones. But what if some of those paintings are forgeries? And what if your employers at Restauro Lorenzetti, a respected firm of art conservators, might be smuggling antiquities? After colleague and roommate Ernst Mann is found dead in the street below their apartment balcony, Flora Garibaldi suspects her bosses are crooks. The Italian police, after ruling Flora innocent of murder, persuade her to spy on her employers.

Story
My story is the story of murder, mass murder, on a scale that was until then unknown. It was premeditated and committed in cold blood. The murderers were Germans and the murdered, the Jews of Holland. The Jews were, in a process of disenfranchisement and isolation, robbed of everything, transported and in a systematic-scientific, technically efficient manner, murdered.

Fun mystery story!
This was a fun mystery that revolved around art forgery as well as the relationship and professional decisions of the protagonist (so it has almost equal parts romance and mystery). The mystery evolved rather quickly, without many plot twists, but I think that is a characteristic of the series (which I didn't start from the beginning). The narrator did a good job of distinguishing between most of the characters, although I did get a little confused at one point between two female characters.

A Must Read!
This is a wonderfully written romantic mystery comedy. The female lead is Flora and she is fantastic. She is so well written that I found myself thinking she would make a great friend. This book is set in Italy and the descriptions of the palace just add an air of mystery to the book. I would definitely recommend this book!

good effort..but unfortunately lacking
The story was a good effort, but read like a movie script.
The dialogue was simplistic, stilted, flat.
Unfortunately this was all made worse by a narrator who tried too hard. Many narrators seem to struggle with doing different voices, however this narrator seemed to struggle with the text reading as well.

A work of art
I enjoyed this book and the hours just flew by while listening to the narrator. I listened to book one and started this one before I realised that it was book three in the series. I don't think it made to much difference listening to them in the wrong order but after writing this review I am off to listen to book two. I liked the characters but it was the look into running of the museum that captured me as the author did a good job of describing it that I could easily picture it in my head. I also liked the mystery.
Flora is restoring an old work of art when she discovers that something isn't right, the painting isn't behaving the way it should be when cleaned. The colour is to bright, on closer inspection she finds a smiley face that shouldn't be there. The painting has been switched with a very clever fake but can she convince her new boss of that fact and to also call in the police? Time runs out and the police are called in when a security guard is killed but are the two crimes connected? The painting must have been switched sometime in the last two years when the museum was under going building repairs but with the murder committed sometime over night the killer and the thief might not even be the same person. Is it safe for Flora to work there or will asking question mean she makes it to the top of someone's to do list?
I liked the narrator and thought she put in a lot of emotion to her story telling.

Excellent audiobook
I really, really loved this book. A great story with well defined and believable characters, lots of details about the setting which brought the tale to life, and no space filling fluff. Though I'm not an art lover the story had me enthralled and kept me interested enough to Google a few of the rt pieces mentioned later, something that few books do.
My only regret was that I didn't realise this was the third book in a series and I hadn't read the first two, now on my wishlist, but even so the story was complete and could easily be a standalone book.
Narration was excellent, the plot was tight and overall a thoroughly enjoyable audiobook.
Book 3 in the series and another well written story. Although only a novella it had enough depth to keep it interesting and the characters were believable. It certainly kept me entertained while stuck in a huge traffic jam in the middle of Birmingham, UK. Probably saved my sanity too.
I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

The World of Art & Crime Meet In Italy
This is a novel of crime in the rarefied world of fine art. An American trained conservator, Flora, living and working in Italy, stumbles upon a series of forged paintings in a highly prestigious Italian art gallery. This could ruin the gallery, discretion is needed. Flora, working closely with the Police, uncovers the perpetrators but only after murder has been inflicted. An intriguing novel with great attention to detail by the author. The narrator adds to the enjoyment and involvement of the listener in the experience.
