Hmmm... 🤔

I really enjoyed these books when it first started, the character was fun, OP, but funny as hell and still entertaining. But as the books continue, they're no longer about the blue mage? It's about other random characters and they're confrontations. I'll probably still finish it, but it's nowhere near as entertaining as the first 2 books..

loved the previous installments

This book doesn't do the series justice. The setting completely changes and feels like they just said what if we had the cast go to Earth in a historical context instead of progressing the storyline.

Nothing-burger

The performance, as always is great. But the story is just a long rambling nothing sandwich. Nothing happens, and it takes 12 hours to do so. I've listened to all of Virlyce's novels for Blue mage and Squirrel - loved them all, but this one is pointless.

It’s not bad

So to begin with if you are looking for reviews to know if you want to get this and see some of the negatives and start to wonder if it’s worth it, well yes yes it is.
The book is in medieval Europe so no modern politics, it’s critical of religion in the same sense previous books have been, it’s funny and it is about the main cast, it also explores a bit of alternative history with earth history, which is something that I enjoy.

So if you are like me and have enjoyed previous books, this one is worth getting as well.

Great reader, story not as entertaining

This one just wasn't hitting the spot for me. I didn't like the whole weird revisiting different periods on Earth thing. Mostly because there was no reason to, and a lot of it came off as half-preachy; like when people use satire and comedy to try to give some message. The humor in this series doesn't match that style of writing. The humor in this series is sophomoric, not really clever, which I love about this series, but not when it's trying to be half-preachy satire.

The writing had to be clever for that, and while the performance is amazing, the style of writing isn't suited to it. Maybe the Grimmy character could have pulled it off if they were there for most of the novel, but they were not, so this was just kinda mediocre to me. The series was a lot better set in the silly fantasy backgrounds.

A filler story

Honestly as much as I love this authors work I have to be honest. Both this book and their most recent God Kings Legacy books are about 70% filler.

Oh don’t get me wrong there are pieces that will likely come in to play in future books in both series that are shown in these books so it’s not like it’s completely filler.

It’s just quite a bit of both books are things that don’t really move the story forward in any way. I am looking forward to the next true books in both series’s.
