Sent to London by her untrustworthy uncle, the beautiful and feisty Katherine Ralston arrives for the Season in utter despair. Not only is she caught up in the mad whirl of ballgowns and galas, she must also make certain that her disreputable uncle doesn't sell her family estate in her absence. Katherine Ralston, a country girl at heart, sees the Season in London as something she must endure.

Nicholas Varnon, known as the Black Duke for his rakish and irresistible charms, sees the season as a chance to repair his rakish reputation. Yet, he seems to be taking quite an interest in the spirited Katherine. Suspicious of trickery, Katherine is determined to ignore the sinfully sexy charms of the Black Duke. Little does she know, she may have just met her white knight in shining armor....

Contains mature themes.

"Absolutely delightful . . . if you aren't reading the smaller Regencies you are missing a rare treat. The stories are innovative and the characters lively. Good job, Ms. Enoch. " ---Affaire de Coeur

The story was riveting and suspenseful. From the very beginning the narrator was overly dramatic pressured speech was distracting and nearly ruined the whole experience

Great story terrible narrator

Very unlikable leading lady. So unrealistic that a man like that would fall for a violent argumentative girl like that. All the same it was well written and a good story for the most part. I’m glad I read it and will look forward to more work from this author.

Sweet story but…

This one just got me! And there wasn’t any mature sex words and it didn’t rely on sexual encounter descriptions! Just good romance!

Excellent!

Storyline ok but Kate was bad tempered and argumentative…usually for no reason. While she took some responsibility she never really tried to repair the damage she created. Shrewish vs Strong…
Really ruined the story.

Unlikable female

I am sure this could be a great story, but I can't stand narrator voice.. sound fast I tried to slow down got worse.. her voice is just too much.. I rather just read it myself.

I like spirited heroines but this one was just had a bad temper and was rash. Because of this the story just got aggravating instead of interesting.

Not one of her best

This author is usually wonderful, but the h is one of the worst ever and the narrator is poor. Read Enoch’s “Mad, Bad and Dangerous in Plaid” - delightful! (Read the print version - poor narration).

Disappointed

Wonderful story

Strong female main character if a bit insecure. She is independent but takes any suggestions or help as a slight on her independence. It does give her a bit of an indecisive feel but still likable. The male main character is romantic and brooding. He has a reputations of being rude and unlikeable.
Over all the book is light and fun. It's short enough that it does't get a chance to get repetitive. Its quite exciting at times with a good actions sequence. Things get suggestive around his past but ultimately I would classify this as a clean romance and maybe even leans slightly towards young adult.

pretty Good

I usually never finish a book on one day but this book kept me interested and I would listen to it again. I enjoyed that Catherine was not a wimpy character and knew who she was and what she wanted. I also like that she could hold her own with the Duke and doesn't take his crap but yet have chemistry between them. I also loved that this was a clean romance similar to Jane Austen's pride and prejudice. It's a worth read/listen. Anne did ok even though she is not my favorite narrator but she doesn't butcher the book.

Loved it
