Publisher's summary

Katlyn Winters’ life changed the instant her husband was killed by a drunk driver. Now, a year later, she can’t put off returning to the workforce any longer. When she joins the architectural team at Bridgeport Graphics, Chicago’s number-one design-to-build firm, she’s able to pretend she’s not alone in the world by keeping a picture of her husband and beautiful little girl on her desk. But as she climbs the corporate ladder, it becomes difficult to explain why her husband isn’t around to support her career, all while her feelings for her boss turn into something more than what’s allowed.

Billionaire Landon Bridgeport is impressed by Katlyn Winters’ work ethic and design skills. Even though she’s been out of the workforce for five years, he takes a chance and hires her on the spot. As she quickly rises in the ranks, winning more bids than any other architect in the firm, she also unwittingly weaves her way into his heart. The only problem is she’s off limits. A picture on her desk of a beautiful family keeps her at arm’s length.

As Landon forces himself out of the office to work on his social life, Katie’s interaction with a male coworker in the office doesn’t add up. He feels compelled to keep her marriage safe while juggling a new relationship and a threatening lawsuit from a disgruntled ex-employee. Something must give as he slowly unravels the truth about Katie - and his love for her that he can no longer deny.

Enjoyable!

I liked The Billionaire’s Promise, but slightly less than The Billionaire’s Secret, because the buildup took too long, making the resolution and HEA too short.

Pleasantly Surprised

I’ve really enjoyed it – not your regular billionaire romance!
Katlyn and Landon have wonderful personalities; their obstacles were relatable and tugged at my heart.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions in this review are my own.

(3.5 stars) - a lovely story but with some bumps

This book did a great job of immediately pulling me into it and keeping me there. I liked the characters & the story so much.

Unfortunately, Katie's deception about her marriage goes on for so long that it became increasingly difficult to watch Landon's misery. At the very latest, it should have come out while they were in NY when things were getting awkward with Landon about her relationship with Josh.

It also was out of place for Katie to be carelessly touching & hugging her boss, especially given the sexual harassment she had endured at her previous job.

And finally, while it is probably somewhat realistic, sadly, Ava's lawsuit jackpot is a prickly thorn in the happily-ever-after.

So, overall, I liked the story, it just wasn't as smooth a ride as I would have enjoyed.

The letter near the end of the story is so incredibly sweet - and even more so after reading the author's note

*Clean romance level: passionate kisses

[The narrator's voice is pleasant and she does a great job with making the characters' voices sound distinct and natural]

GOOD STORY

New author and enjoyed , well written, given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
How she stepped back into the work force, a job and a boss, were a dream. The attraction and tension was real, thinking she was married. This causes problems for her till she tells the truth.
The narration by Veronica Giguere brought the story to life.

This is a sweet love story of respect, sacrifice, and moving on.

Landon is the type of person who takes responsibility very seriously. He has the means, the looks, and the opportunity to be out playing the field, but he has given his father’s company his undivided attention for years. Work and family are important to him.
When Katie seeks the job of secretary in his company, he sees immediately that she is overqualified.
This intrigues him.
Katie is an enigma to him.
Katie isn’t ready to move on with her life, but she is standing on the threshold of moving on. This indecisive behavior makes some of her choices seem suspect, but she fears dealing with her loss publicly is more than she can handle.
This is a sweet love story of respect, sacrifice, and moving on.

The past was painful but it was time to move forward.

Faced with insurmountable problems, Katie finds she can’t do everything by herself. She has to accept the help offered by supportive family and friends. As she becomes brave enough to trust, movement forward is again possible. I appreciate the interesting story line again proving that clean & Christian doesn’t have to equate to boring.
The narration flowed smoothly as it enhanced the story with multiple voices and emotion.

An enjoyable well written office clean romance. This engaging storyline was beautifully narrated with Good expressions and distinguishing between male and female characters.  It includes some misunderstandings, deception, overcome office politics, fears, past hurts, obstacles, love and amazing attraction in a sweet entertaining story.  The characters were well developed, interesting and realistic as they journey towards a sweet and wonderful ending.

Clean, Christian Romance

Story: 3 stars

Lies and angst in abundance. I agree with another reviewer that the touchy-feely component of our heroine's personality was off-base considering her history with her former boss. There were times when I was ready to strangle the heroine because her lie went on for SO LONG! And the angst and miscommunications were there in force. In her defense, Johanna Evelyn wrote a deeply felt and slow-growing romance. It was well-written and worth it in the end.

Christian, but only touches on the heroine’s beliefs now and then.

Narrator: 4 stars

Very nice voice. Good expression and inflections (only one mispronunciation for the entire book! Yay!). Good female and male voices, I’d gladly listen to Ms. Giguere read again.
