Publisher's summary

Orphaned. Neglected. Hurt and abused. Jane Daugherty has survived what can only be described as the childhood from hell. After years of mental, physical, and sexual abuse, she has become a fiercely independent young woman - closed off from human connection. Unable to trust people or their ability to be kind, she has vowed to build a new life for herself so that she never has to rely on others again. At 24 years old, she is fulfilling this vow, successfully working as the youngest tenure-track professor at the University of New York.

Jane's life takes an unexpected turn when she is reunited with the childhood friend she protected in foster care. Alexa Masterson introduces Jane to the family that adopted her, a family that includes her older brother, Aiden Masterson. Instantly drawn to each other, Aiden and Jane embark on a relationship that will either destroy them both or shape them into the man and woman they were always meant to be. Can what started as lust transform into love? And what will bring about the transformation that they ultimately need?

Please note there is occasional cursing, mild violence, and unapologetic references to sexuality and spirituality within this work of fiction. Reader discretion is advised.

Nice surprise

This book is a great romance that includes relevant real world issues. Given the level of the main characters personal struggles I was pleasantly surprised by how the author resolved them. This book was written well and was a good length. I look forward to reading more books from this author in the future.

The most beautiful book I’ve ever listed (excluding the Bible)

I’m still in chills! What a beautiful and surprising novel! I’m absolutely in tears of how wonderful “Jane” was. Michelle’s story took me to another world that I’ve never have never known but could see glimpses of my own story in every chapter. I don’t want to provide any spoilers, but “Jane” allowed for a renewal of faith and redemption in relationships.

I’ll ever be grateful to Michelle for articulating love and challenges so gracefully. Thank you so much for your lovely novel and I look forward to other audible books from Michelle. God bless!

Awesome and uplifting

I like how the book is relatable from both point of views. Some parts were hard to listen to because of the tragedy but I’m happy I stuck to it. I will definitely recommend this book.

Heart Warming Story

I'm probably not the target demographic (35 year old male), but my sister recommended this book to me (who also happens to be the narrator), and I've been a huge fan of all of her work.

I'm not accustomed to the genre (like I said, not the target demographic), but I found the story endearing and it reminded me of many of the same emotions I felt when I first met my wife (and still have years later, lol)

If you are interested in the genre, this might be a good first book for you :)

I wanted to like it

Jane is a beautiful story about a young black woman with a troubled past falling in love with the adoptive brother of her best friend. Jane is such a strong a resilient character and I really wanted to see her succeed. However I found her very difficult to like. She seemed to used her history as an excuse to mistreat people who were trying to help and love her. Aidan was far from perfect as well. He wasn't the best listener and at times a bit callous. They got into so many squables that I almost wanted them to not work out. Jane had some serious problems with intimacy that she needed to work on. Arguably, this was not a good time for her to start a relationship. Alexa was my favorite person in the book. She was multidimensional, loving open, honest and she didn't judge people for not sharing the same beliefs. For me she was the most dependable character in the book.

Just a heads up, Christianity has a strong presence in this book. For me personally, it was a pleasant surprise (being that I am a christian),however I can see how it might catch one off guard. I will say it was beautiful and different seeing faith being a part of two character's journey to growth as individuals together. I feel as though this should be marketed as a christian romance.

The narrator was just okay. She made Jane seem whiny.

Wonderful story

This was a great story. I was blessed to have found it. Thanks for incorporating a religious aspect to your romance novel.

Beautiful! "Absolutely breathtaking "

This book was a true blessing and I will definitely be telling people to listen to this book. I truly sympathized with how Jane lived her life. She had to be such a strong woman at such a young age. I have never had to live like how she did but how her life was described I actually felt like she was a friend of mine. I cried at times and cheered at other times. I felt myself getting mad when she was upset and getting frustrated with her when she was being stubborn. I swear I feel like I went on an emotional rollercoaster but in the end I came out feeling like I had a new goal. I really feel like through God relationships can never fail as long as you put him first. I find that I have even more faith that God will send me someone special and I hope to have a love like how Jane and Aiden had. I know I just have to be patient but I hope that I will know him when I see him. Thank you so much Michelle Onorati for writing this beautiful book and Natalie Naudus for narrating this book so well. 5 stars all around. Excellent. I actually stumbled across this book but I am glad I did. If you haven't listened to this book you should definitely do so. I promise it doesn't feel like 12 hours and it could even been longer and I still would have been happy.

The Tale of Two stories

This story started out great. Then it turned into a sermon. I wish you would have given us a heads up because I wasted a evening listening to the rest of this.
