AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A must-have guide to optimizing your life for wealth and success, from bestselling author, NYU professor, and cohost of the Pivot podcast Scott Galloway

Today’s workers have more opportunities and mobility than any generation before. They also face unprecedented challenges, including inflation, labor and housing shortages, and climate volatility. Even the notion of retirement is undergoing a profound rethink, as our lifespans extend and our relationship with work evolves. In this environment, the tried-and-true financial advice our parents followed is no longer enough. It’s time for a new playbook.

In The Algebra of Wealth, Scott Galloway lays bare the rules of financial success in today’s economy. In his characteristic unvarnished, no-BS style, he explains what you need to know in order to better your chances for economic security no matter what. You’ll learn:

  • How to find and follow your talent, not your passion, when making career decisions
  • How to ride and optimize big economic waves (hard truth: market dynamics always trump individual achievement)
  • What small steps you can take that pay big returns later, including diversification and tax planning
  • How stoicism can help you minimize spending and develop better financial habits

Brimming with wise, game-changing advice from one of the world’s most popular business school professors, The Algebra of Wealth offers a powerful framework for making the most of what opportunities come your way.

Critic reviews

“Profoundly insightful and a joy to read. Few explain complicated topics better than Scott Galloway.”—Morgan Housel, New York Times bestselling author of The Psychology of Money

“The decisions you make at the beginning of your professional life have a compounding impact on your chances of success, and this invaluable guide will steer you toward an optimal outcome.”—Annie Duke, bestselling author of Thinking in Bets

The Algebra of Wealth is a book that is about far more than investing and wealth. It’s about how your life choices play out in your financial standing and wealth, and Scott delivers his lessons with humor and panache. I cannot recommend it strongly enough!"—Aswath Damodaran, professor of finance, Stern School of Business, NYU

The book I wish I had read in my high school senior year. A little dense in technicalities about investing but you can skip those bits and go back to them when it’s time to make investment decisions. Great, down to earth life advice. Will be reading it again in a “book club” with my teenage sons.

Great money/life advice to young people

Scott Galloway is a very smart man. I’ve listened to him on podcasts. I’ve read things that he’s written, and I like him more each time I hear the things he says. He knows what he’s doing, he has good advice to impart, he has real knowledge about his subject matter, and he makes it easier for the rest of us to understand it. Read this book, and follow even a fraction of the tennis in it, and you will be the better for it. Thank you for the effort you put into writing this book, and the care you show about financial matters that impact all of us.

Real financial advice.

If you have any finance background there’s nothing groundbreaking in here. It’s a great refresher on some basics, but other than being motivational to save more, it’s just a big picture reminder on some fundamentals. That being said, would strongly recommend for those that haven’t ever had any connection to finance because it’s definitely one of the more approachable books out there.

Great for Most People. Nothing new for those with a solid finance background.

If you are on your 20’s or early 30’s I would say it’s a must. If you are older and with experience in business is not that good but still useful. I’m very fan of Scott.

I spend most of my time speaking to college graduates that don’t know the first thing about money, personal finance or how capitalism works. This will now be the first book I recommend to all of them

The humor in what’s generally a difficult subject to teach young people
