Publisher's Summary

Ten thousand worlds. Ten thousand enemies. One love.

Marguerite Caine has done the impossible, traveling to alternate dimensions with the Firebird - the brilliant invention of her parents; her boyfriend, Paul; and their friend, Theo. But she has also caught the attention of enemies willing to kidnap, blackmail, and even kill to use the Firebird for themselves.

When Paul's soul is splintered into four pieces - pieces that are trapped within Pauls in other dimensions - Marguerite will do anything and travel anywhere to save him. But the price of his safe return is steep. If she doesn't sabotage her parents in multiple universes, Paul will be lost forever.

Unwilling to sacrifice her family, Marguerite enlists the brilliant Theo to help. The two forge a plan to save Paul and the Firebird, but succeeding means outsmarting a genius and risking not only their lives but also the lives of their counterparts in every other dimension.

Their mission takes them to the most dangerous universes yet: a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each leap brings Marguerite closer to saving Paul - but her journey reveals dark truths that lead her to doubt the one constant she's found between the worlds: their love for each other.

Second book not as good

This book was predictable up until the last few chapters then came a brief bright light as the it sank as the too predictable ending came. Only to dangle the next book in front of us that I will not read or listen.
Thankfully this author keeps us from gratuitous sex, language, and violence.

Even Better Than The First!

More of this review and others at: Whimsically Bookish

WHY has it taken me two years to read this?! Oh... yeah, right, I had a baby in 2015. I missed out on a ton of good books that year. But still! Just to do a simple recap, I reread (listened) to the first book in this series (you can find my original review here) last week and finished this book today and I was not disappointed!

First off, let me just say that Tavia Gilbert is the BEST narrator. Ever. You can argue with me, but you'd be wrong. If you listen to audiobooks like I do, you know that a narrator can either make or a break a book that you listen to. Well, Tavia Gilbert does such a phenomenal job in this series I completely forget that I'm listening to only one person (or that I'm actually listening to anyone at all- most of the time I'm too completely absorbed in the story). Basically, she deserves an Oscar.

Moving on... sometimes I'm afraid to read the second book in a series because I'm usually terrified that there is no way it will be as good as the first one. We all know it happens sometimes. But I'm happy to tell you that Ten Thousand Skies Above You held it's on and was just as amazing (if not more so) than the first novel! I don't know how Claudia Gray does it, but she has created this amazing world that should be too complicated for someone to understand (we're talking a gazillion dimensions here), but at no point was I ever confused as to what was going on or felt lost. She covers everything so smoothly it just keeps you turning the pages (or in my case never hitting stop on my phone).

The world(s) building is amazing, the characters unforgettable... literally everything I want and more in a book this series has and that's why it's made its way to my favorites shelf.

Excellent Continuation

This was a great second novel in the series. While I enjoyed the first book in the series more, this is still a well-written and thrilling story. The narration also continues to be fantastic!

Even better than the first!

What did you like best about this story?

Somehow, Claudia Gray has managed to come up with even more amazing dimensions for the characters to explore. Each "verse" is just as compelling as the last, and I love to explore each new world and new Marguerite.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

I cannot rave enough about Tavia Gilbert. Her range of voices is excellent, and she is so fun to listen to!

Very Dramatic

The narration is very dramatic although I liked her voice. I am buying the books for my 13 year old niece. I think she might enjoy.

Decent story, terrible narrator

I thoroughly enjoy Claudia Gray's style, ever since I started with the Evernight series. This installment of the Firebird trilogy feels like a penultimate novel, much the same way Brent Week's Blood Mirror and Sanderson's Well of Ascension do. Stakes are raised/antes are upped but it doesn't seem like anything earth shattering will happen.

Which is why I'm returning it half-listened to finish it on kindle where I can read in the voice in my head and no longer be punished by the tinny timber and breathy, shaky, whiny quality of this narrator when she tries to infuse intensity into a scene. Marguerite goes through a lot of scary stuff which might be forgiven, but this ridiculous tone carries over to her reading of the prose (perhaps because of the first-person POV of Marguerite) as well as her dramatization of Theo and Paul.

A good listen

good narrator, I found her believable. the story just didn't grab me as much as it did with the previous book. There was a lot of jumping around at the beginning establishing the story and filling you in. but I found it a bit distracting.
towards the end I began to get into it a bit more as she got to the twist and established the next book I think the third book will be a lot more interesting. but I did enjoy it overall ^^
