Publisher's Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Beverly Jenkins comes a new novel in a mesmerizing series set in the Old West, where an arranged marriage becomes a grand passion....

What kind of mail-order bride greets her intended with a bullet instead of a kiss? One like Regan Carmichael - an independent spirit equally at home in denims and dresses. Shooting Dr. Colton Lee in the shoulder is an honest error, but soon Regan wonders if her entire plan to marry a man she's never met is a mistake. Colton, who buried his heart along with his first wife, insists he only wants someone to care for his daughter. Yet Regan is drawn to the unmistakable desire in his gaze.

Regan's far from the docile bride Colton was expecting. Still, few women would brave the wilds of Wyoming Territory for an uncertain future with a widower and his child. The thought of having a bold, forthright woman like Regan in his life - and in his arms - begins to inspire a new dream. And despite his family's disapproval and an unseen enemy, he'll risk all to make this match a real union of body and soul.

Narrator aged characters

I really enjoy historical books by Beverly Jenkins, and I usually enjoy this narrator. However, I have noticed that her voice seems a bit mature for some of the characters. I thought Regan was in her late 20's to early 30's but the narrator made her seem much older. I also was hoping that Mrs. Jenkins would mention Sable and/ or the Fontaine's other sister in the story. I loved Sable and Raymond's story so much it could just be wishful thinking on my part. Overall, I enjoyed the story.

Great story and narration

This was a great story. I liked the main characters and the plot was really interesting. It wasn't the typical romance and I likes it. I'll read more by this author.

Luce…

There was little change to the texture and tone for each character’s voices; should’ve been more than one narrator. Too many cliché or “classic” responses in most of the conversations.

Really enjoyed this audible program.

I loved everything about this audible program. It was a mail order romance with interesting historical elements. The narrator was excellent. I felt as if I were right there inside the story. I read my first Beverly Jenkins book several years ago and was hooked. Unfortunately, I lost the entire audible collection. I learned a lot about historical facts while enjoying a good love story that portrayed human nature with accompanied drama and doses of humor. Both primary characters were strong, loving, and mature-minded. I'm going to add B.J. to my list of favorite authors.

Great story 😀

Loved the book, it was definetly a change of style & content for the author. I wasn't too keen on the narrator tho, who was terrible at British, Irish & Chinese accents. I also struggled with which characters were male or female, as there wasn't much change in the narrators voice. Could do with a male reader for the men's parts
